Actor and comedian Beat Takeshi will be appearing as an adviser on the Osaka ABC TV series "Detective! Knight Scoop" which will air May 28. He recently went to Osaka to film the segment with comedian Seiki Nagahara and actor Toshiyuki Nishida, who directs the show.
Takeshi, who was in Osaka doing PR for his latest movie "Outrage," which opens June 12, said he is a big fan of the show. In the program, which has been on the air weekly for 20 years, viewers send in requests on how to deal with difficult issues and the guests -- usually comedians -- suggest solutions.

With regard to Monta . . . I did not mean to infer that I agree with him in any way. however, the guy is on TV a lot, and quite a bit is live. Of course, that gives him more of an opportunity to make an ass of himself in real-time. Something he does on a regular basis. When I watch him I say to my self, "not this guy again." that's it. No thoughts of violence.
With Kitano I feel like throwing heavy objects at my $2,500 TV. I feel sorry for the peole that have to appear with him on TV. Last night I was watching Seikai Marumie and I could not stand to see one of my Japanese girlfriends, Yukari Nishio, having to be in the same space as Kitano.
Don't even get me started on his films . . .

What? He does the same thing, badly, for an astonishing amount of time? Dave - you've been working in a Japanese office for too long, mate.

@3RENSHO: Thank you! Mino Monta is also an alarmist. What he says on his morning show has too much influence on public opinion here. The ONLY show I can stand to watch with him is "Kenmin Show" where he isn't on the screen that much. And when he is, I either look away from the screen or hit the mute button!

Mino Monta is a good comparison (with Beat Takeshi) because he also bullys his guests and his support staff into meek submission. They cannot utter a peep out of turn, but Monta is always coughing and hacking like a smoker, his back constantly turned to the camera and interrupting anyone who dares speak for more than a few seconds. A producer's worst nightmare!

I do not mind Mino Monta. Even if you do not like what he says you can at least admire his work ethic. Kitano, not so much. Like so many have said he is a bully. Kitano has been one of the top dogs in the J-Ent world. As such he feels entitled to do/say/act how he pleases. None of the lower ranking tarentos ever say anything to him about his behavior. i fell as if he could actually have something intelligent to say, but how can you take Kitano seriously when he appears on TV looking like Moe Howard?

If you are forced to watch any show on J-tv MrDog - I hope it is either this or Sazae. Knight Scoop is a rocking show. If you can find it, the episode where they unleashed a town full of zombies onto a family of bratty kids, you may pass out from laughter. Possibly the funniest television I have ever seen.

I stopped watching Japanese TV 2 years ago. Hate it. I think I've watched a total of 3 hours or less in that time.
Takeshi can be really interesting when he's just talking normally but, I have no idea why he's so famous. But, more than Takeshi, I can't stand Sanma and Tokoro. All they ever do is talk big, brag, show off, talk about how much money they have and who they know, especially Tokoro.

This buffoon is on TV right now. They're introducing a segment which shows a year in the life of a deer in the alps. It's obviously some high-budget documentary made overseas, because it doesn't have a squeaky mascot in it.
So how does this revered director set up the segment? He ponces on stage with a deer mask on the top of his head, with a fire extinguisher shoved inside it squirting CO2 on the witless studio guests.
The infantilism of this society never ceases to plumb new depths.

Tantei Knight Scoop is one of the best Japanese TV shows ever, real comedians, teamed with a production crew that always manage to dig up real interest stories, it's a traditional Osaka classic.
How dare they invite talentless, "convicted of drunk driving and still we have to put up with him on TV" Takeshi!

Sometimes they ask me why Kitano get's these awards overseas, but I wouldn't know it either. In a TV interview he mentioned once that he didn't want to make violent movies a la Clint Eastwood, but I have seen a couple of his movies and I found them pretty violent. But maybe his movies have some sort of message, what, I haven't a clue. In his latest movie Outrage, he utters 'bakayarou', like a chinpira, a good many of times, so guess it's some sort of yakuza movie.

I liked him ever since "Merry X-Mas Mr. Lawrence".
Some of the shows he hosts are fairly good and many are/were controversial. Overall I take his shows vs some of the other stuff shown on Japanese TV.
daraho
He has never been the same since the accident. If I were him I would retire and take it easy.

BULLY...
How do you know he is a bully? I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just curious as to how you would know?
gubbish
The correct spelling is "Knight Scoop." They intended the title to refer to the tantei as "knights" coming to the rescue of the people writing about their problems or questions.
caffeinebuzz
He just seems to grumble aimlessly from studio to studio. Watching him on some show slumped over the desk is a bit painful in itself.
WilliB
Trust Beat Takeshis wisdom to solve the crime problem!
Bogi
Isn't it "Knight" Scoop?
goddog
He is not a comedian. He is a bully and talentless.

I couldn't agree more, sillygirl! The way he is idolized makes me sick. I avoid all of his TV shows and movies like the plague. The only other person who makes me that sick is Mino Monta. Disgusting!
sillygirl
is there no way to get rid of this man? i know -he`s won awards for his films and the like - but honestly - do people take his bullying, stupid wigs, costumes seriously? does the outside world now of this side of him?
