Does anyone have intel on if/when the 70mm Roadshow comes to Japan? I heard Tarantino say the Roadshow would be released in Asia this year, but didn't hear about the date for the 70mm print. Thanks!

I don;t deny that there are people who enjoy Tarantino films. In fact, that's my point. Finding gory sadism entertaining is quite common

Your point being?

Again, it's a movie - entertainment. I abhor violence and war, but I love violent movies and war movies. Movies are not reality, and there is nothing wrong with escapism in enjoying a movie.

Some people are probably attracted to violent movies because it may offer meaningful insight into some aspect of the human condition. In fact they may not necessarily be attracted to the violence or violent content. Instead they anticipate the thrill and suspense including the perception that violence is meaningful and thought provoking. It's quite clear that Mr. Tarantino loves extreme violence and feels that's the best way to control the emotions of the audience. So he has the responsibility to make characters as true to them as he possibly can and is not concerned about debating the impact of movies on real life violence in society.

Unfortunately, even Tarantino may be fighting a losing battle to save film, with one very good reason: few film processing labs still exist out there, put out of business when the RED Digital Cinema Camera Co. started to release theatrical quality digital movie cameras at reasonable cost, which unfortunately also has hurt the film camera leasing business of Arri and Panavision.

As such, Tarantino's next movie will probably require him putting up a lot of money up front just to use film movie cameras (he probably did it now for The Hateful Eight).

Why? I generally really like Tarantino films. They are movies, not reality. AKA - entertainment.

I, too, like Tarantino films. They are so over the top. And I know that they are just entertainment.

I just wish Tarantino would stick to filmmaking rather than getting involved in political stuff. Sort of like Spike Lee. Good director, some great movies, but not a big fan of his political stuff... and his support for the Knicks, which is rather annoying! :-)

One thing I would say is about movies and violence. Some of the very same people that say that violence in movies has absolutely no impact on viewers because it is just entertainment are the very same people that believe in marketing via commercials and using persuasive trailers to draw people to movies.... sort of contradictory, in my mind. Just saying...

Tarantino has become the Donald Trump of cinema, wallowing in and appealing to the basest aspects of the American character, its thirst for violence and gunplay. If you enjoy this, you should take a good look at yourself.

Have tickets to the 70mm showing on New Year's Eve. Looking forward to having my socks blown off. Made sure the theatre has a bar.

Mr. Pink still has to tip.

If it’s too much for people, if audiences don’t accept it, well I guess that’s just the way it is.

I fully agree. Still any number of church ladies will tsk-tsk without ever having seen it, only read criticisms by someone who shares their perspective.

One of the many wonderful things about movies is you can choose to watch any one you want, or choose not to.

Another wonderful thing about movies is that they do not have to resemble what any single individual deems reality to be. After all, reality's in the eye of the beholder. As Mr. Pink said, 'Why can't we choose our own colours?'
