Tasty, these noodles are: Nissin gets help from Yoda

The Nissin Cup Noodle force is strong with Yoda of "Star Wars" fame. "Believe in your power, you must," says Yoda as a cup of noodles floats toward him.

Some of the Japanese responses to the YouTube video included: "This is awesome!" "Yoda is cute." "lol", and so on.

What would George Lucas say?

A news story before, this has been.

Tasty these noodles are, and nothing good for your body they contain... Hmmmm, weak is the force I sense...

What would George Lucas say?

"I looove the money". I'm sure they obtained approval before using such a high profile figure...

Much, it will cost you. I am cracking up at this! hahahaha!

one of the responses was "lol." wow, that was important to know.

and what would GL say? uhhh, last time i checked he wasn't dead.

Okay, it's a decent commercial. Not SuperBowl quality but decent. Still, last year's Volkswagen commercial with Darth Vader RULES.

I've never been a fan of Japanese commercials It's very rare that I see a good commercial that makes me laugh. I don't know what they can do either. The SuperBowl is the showcase event for media creativity. Maybe NHK should allow the commercials so that advertisers and directors here can take notes.

What's worse is that sometimes they SPAM Japanese commercials. Have you ever seen the same commercial back to back? It could make someone think they have a gap in their memory. Cruel and unusual punishment if you ask me.

Hmm, i have to disagree. Japanese commercials are funny for the Japanese standards and usually very successful among the Japanese audience (remember, the goal is not only to be funny, but also to attract the audience to the product).

I agree with this one though. Why would anybody want to watch the same commercial twice in a row?

Why not, after Darth Vader in Docomo's commercial?

I wonder what's next- Chewbacca in Reve21 or Artnature CM, Darth Maul in Alsoc CM or Jabba the Hut for Ajinomoto?

So basically Yoda's grammar is the same as Japanese grammar.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

ironchef, haha, exactly! It is just strange actually)

0 ( +1 / -1 )

It is bad for health these noodles.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

ironchef, natalia - nope, actually it is not as the Japanese language. In Japanese you would say:

"ヌードルわおいしいですね"

"Noodles tasty are"

Yoda would say:

"Tasty these noodles are"

Yoda used a object-subject-verb order, while in Japanese the order is subject-object-verb...

Actually Yoda's way of talking is called "Yodaism" and is quite unique among world's languages...

Eating instant noodles will stunt your growth, make you wrinkly, make your ears go pointy and sticky-out, and give you a severe speech impediment. But strangely, people will think you cute.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Actually ebisen, if they're really tasty noodles おいしいはぁ、このヌードルのやつは!- which isn't far off what Yoda would say. But there's no way instant anything tastes good enough to warrant that kind of exaggeration.

So I wonder how Yoda's fronting of the adjective or prepositional phrase is represented when the movie is subtitled in Japanese. Do they "fix" the oddness, or represent it as is? Curious, I am.

Cleo - that's heavily overdoing it, and not like the normal Japanese would use for a statement ;)~~~. this form is sometimes used in Haiku though...

The Japanese translation is not "corrected". Yoda sounds like Yoda for a native Japanese, with the words reversed...

Sheesh, I sure hope they got permission for Lucas first, or they're screwed, force be with them or not. As for instant noodles, you could only force me to eat them.

The humor...let's just say the force is strong with this one and leave it at that.

Unwarranted exaggeration it was, I said.....

Ugly faced Yoda, eat Nissin and you will look like him.

"This is awesome!" "Yoda is cute."

Now, you see, that's what gonna happen to you. Even their good taste failed them. Where is he cute? He has a face like you submitted your pet to a plastic surgery to look like a man. I don't even know what kind of creature he is. Might have a power in the movie, but cute???? nahh

Yoda is sexy and powerful. But I doubt he lived to an old age because of eating dried noodles.

Yoda is sexy and powerful.

hehehe, hahaha.

OMG. Don' t tell such things, don't give them ideas, I will live to see Yoda performing a sexy belly dance in a new upcoming commercial.

We were watching some program last week about severe burn victims. One girl from Indonesia was featured, her injuries were awful. She went to the US for surgery. They say 'Now, we find out how she looks now, 12 years after surgery' and they cut to this commercial. I almost choked until a split second later I realized it was a commercial. Really bad ad placement...

If Yoda were real, I think this product would be very low on his list of products to promote.

Its an unfortunate waste of a good cultural icon.

But I will admit the commercial was very well made. But I am not the type of person to put the glitz before the message. I would rather poor special effects and Yoda promoting something healthful.

they could have Jar Jar for free

Yoda stars in a Japanese commercial, endorses Cup Noodles he does.

Consume nine hundred percent of your daily sodium you will.

thought this page was in Google translate mode....nope just a weird "article"

Yoda is SO KAWAII! My kids love Star Wars so we need to watch this TV CM ASAP!!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

ヨーダのよーだ This must be Yoda. This does remind me of Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker). We attended the same high-school . Back then Yo-Hi was in Yokohama. His father was stationed in Yokosuka.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

I still think the Cup Noodle CM with Jamiroquai is the best.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

hahahaaa Yoda's stomach's growling.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What I hate about the commercial is the final tagline: BOIL JAPAN. Is someone making a prank here, or is this another one of the engrish bloopers?

How can people say Yoda is cute or Star Wars make any sense? It's so boring, brainwashing made for the gullible.

Or is something wrong with me? Looking at Yoda all I can see is a puppet, a badly tailored one that didn't even classify to get a role in the Muppet show. In most cases in the movie it was a puppet could only be seen over waist. When I was a child I read Hauff's fairy tales. They were more realistic and heart warming than the whole Star Wars with that childish powerhouse Yoda puppet. Let alone, Hauff's stories at least had a moral in the end.

Somewhat people move so far away from realities in these days. Those who are gullible enough to enjoy Star Wars or Yoda, small wonder they can even be fooled into feeding on paste soaking in hot water poured onto some suspicious brown instant chemical powder. Not even mentioning that plastic shells emit dioxin or other harmful toxic materials when they are heated or hot water poured in them.

That seems to be a measurement for gullibility. Like voltage and resistance have its own physical measurement.

The measurement of gullibility is 1 yoda. 1 yoda is, when one person looking at Yoda from one meter of distance for one minute will find it cute for ten years.

Nissin aims only a certain layer of consumers now. If you are gullible enough to find Yoda cute than you will be gullible enough to eat Nissin. People with 1.2 yoda will try Nissin at least once in their lives, people with 2.3 yoda will eat it regularly, people with 3 yoda will poison themselves.

What does "Boil Japan" even mean?? Lordy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Eat this, you will.

Hungry, you will remain.

Thirsty, you will become.

With you people, what is wrong?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I just saw the TV commercial for this yesterday. It says "Boil Japan" in English. Isn't there a bad connotation to that?
