She didn't have to live with the former deal and had the power to make it moot. Good.
John Fogerty was accused of plagiarizing himself with "The Old Man Down the Road" and Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Run Through the Jungle." A jury ruled that Fogerty did not infringe upon himself.

Always check the small print. If I shelled out a reputed $300m for recordings that were then re-recorded, I'd be a tad irked with my due diligence folk.
This has certainly turned out well for Universal.

And I'd be cautious to be nice to the artists involved to keep them profitable, by not being a .... well, we can't post the multiple words here that come to mind. All Taylor did was the same thing that George Lucas did with everything Star Wars - she made relatively tiny changes and re-released the works to capture copyright, extend it, and in Taylor's situation, make the prior work nearly worthless. Anyone who didn't already own a license for those songs would probably get them from the newer recordings. Americans like it when an individual screws over a corporation - even if the individual is actually a corporation.
BTW, I'm not any huge TS fan. She has a few catchy tunes, but I'm not the target audience.

Good for Swift. She's cool.
