Tearful Sawajiri confirms plan to divorce, promises to change attitude

Actress Erika Sawajiri, 24, on Sunday confirmed her plan to divorce 46-year-old media creator Tsuyoshi Takashiro. After attending a publicity event for beauty clinic Takano Yuri as a special guest, Sawajiri, who has been hounded by the press following her erratic behavior, rumors of divorce and reconciliation attempts with her husband, held a press conference at which she said: "We have agreed to file for divorce."

Sawajiri tearfully said that if the Japanese public could forgive her recent rebellious behavior, she planned to change her attitude and return to her celebrity lifestyle in Japan (she had spent much of the last 12 months in Spain). Sawajiri also explained that her sudden disappearance from public view last September was an attempt to maintain her privacy while she and Takashiro discussed divorce proceedings.

"It took three months to get to this point," she explained. "I think my mental state has been affected by the strain. I would like to conclude this matter as quickly as possible and return my life to some sense of normality."

I don’t really understand why all the mass media are reporting about her so large and the article about this press conference was a front page of most of the next days’ newspapers. Her attitude changes every time she is on TV, sometimes nice, sometimes rude and haughty, and sometimes neglect. She wasn’t even in Japan for the last 12 months and she didn’t appeared on TV, except gossip shows. I think most of the people don’t really care about her, and her divorce. I hope she will be back on TV as an actress, which is her main occupation.

My opinion? "Betsuni".

agree with sarge

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The older guy just used her as his trophy wife? Now after the trophy case display is over, sent her back to the storage room?

To Erika with love:

Betsuni (べつ に) XOXOXO

@medievaltimes hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!

Her agency just yelled at her for a while and gave her the ultimatum: love (or infatuation) or mainstream fame.

My family and I had a 90 minute discussion about this and let me say, it was quite emotional. But we finally decided that although we strongly disaprove of her behavior, we will in fact forgive her. But we want her to know that we will be closely monitoring her attitude and lifestyle changes.

What happened to her bottle of champange?

Calm down, Sarge! Ridiculous, yes, hot, well...if you say so, but you'll get no competition from me!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This is great news for all eligible men.

Erika remains ridiculously hot.

She is sad and crying in sad mood and hopeless... This is so depressingly heart-breaking...reading the selfish comments of people with no compassion for a suffering person!

100% agree

Potida:

What a shame, the girl had guts...

What rubbish! I have to agree with lunchbox. She went into movies and yet couldn't be half-arsed to do any promotion. She just stood there, sulking. Even Hollywood stars have to come here, act the part and smile. If you don't want to do any promoting, then don't act. It's as simple as that. I don't see any 'guts' in being immature and sulky. I've never understood why she was popular. I'd have more respect for her if she actually stayed in Spain to learn about other cultures, re-discover herself and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. But no, a rich man wasn't enough. She wants the 'old celebrity life' back.

Boo hoo hoo. Not all of us earn money because of a pretty face. Some of us have to earn a living after years of studying, and without the benefit of a rich husband.

The drama queen is dead, long live the drama queen.

A better choice for her would have been to spend a year living with an elderly Japanese couple rather than studying abroad in France. She is a spoilt rich B## and needs to grow up. She still hasn't apologized (sincerely) for her immature behaviour a few years back, and until she does the majority of Japan won't give here a second chance. I'm surprised her management hasn't been black listed for not coaching her better.

i am just going to sit back until the japanese media finally tires of her and we can all go live our lives normally again.

24 and 46...imho very big age difference

Like who cares! Media is just wasting time and money.

I would imagine a wild joyride in the countryside would help her feel better.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Oh the drama of it all.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

NOOOO! Don't want another marshmallow J-celeb. Erika without the sass is just another pretty face in the crowd. Although, I suppose who wouldn't sell their soul if the price is right.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Let her live her life the way she sees fit.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She's 24 so in the Japanese entertainment business has 2 maybe 3 years left at best. If she want's money then she'll just have to swallow all the crap and be cute and fluffy, as they like; or try to capitalise on her current reputation somehow, perhaps by doing these god awful dramas with sinister music in them.

One person against this whole machine doesn't stand a chance.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

yea!!!....i am so happy...gambatte erika-san

I think rebellious Erika is just a character.... Just my opinion...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Seriously, I don't think she should become another compliant actress who conforms to the system because she's taking a chance she'll just fade away. Maybe tone down her lifestyle a bit, but I wouldn't advise her to lose her "edge". That actually an advantage at this point and can only help her get work. Besides, it would be satisfying to see someone buck the system and succeed.

She learned that getting black-X'd from the media in Japan is very real. Conform to the norm or spend your future days doing i-pod casts.

Tatanka: Are you trying to ruin my only chance with Erika?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hi Tsuyoshi Takashiro (^_~)>

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She needs to stay away from older men with open prescriptions of Viagra...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hey I always thought this marry then divorce thing was normal for "tarento" hahah

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm with hoserfella on this one. Any Japanese celebrity who had the nerve to tell the all-controlling media and entertainment establishment to piss off is OK in my book.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Maybe I'm wrong, but I just have the feeling that the only role which the Japanese public and celeb machine want to see her in is, "punching bag" and object lesson to prove what happens to the nail that sticks up.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Crocodile tears, my friends.

"Sawajiri tearfully said that if the Japanese public could forgive her recent rebellious behavior, she planned to change her attitude and return to her celebrity lifestyle in Japan (she had spent much of the last 12 months in Spain)."

BS... she already promised this after coming home from overseas. Didn't happen then, it won't happen now.

"She's a major twit"

"Erika Who?"

You might dislike her but by virtue of all the media attention she IS already famous. There's an old show biz saying of something like: bad publicity is better than no publicity at all.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

herefornow, how many of her movies have you seen? She's actually a pretty good actress, much better than most in Japan.

bicultural -- luckily, just two, on cable. And, respectfully, anyone who "stars" in 5 pictures released in one year, as she did in 2006, does not truly define acting. Possibly by Japan standards, as you say. But, not in any real artistic sense. She is simply a product of the Japanese TV/movie/record production machine and found out what happens when you bite the hand that feeds you. No more. No less.

Saw this last night. Seemed like a highly-scripted performance. Bottom line: she needs a job. Well, lots of us with day jobs would also like to be a famous celebrity actress...get back in line with all the other puppets.

The reason it's great to be a vampire money-sucking parasite producer or promoter is obvious: people will throw away everything and act like utter shameless fools, over and over again, just to be "famous" and help you get your 95% of the take plus all royalties. And after losing everything, they're willing to cry and beg for forgiveness and "one more chance" in public.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

bigricebowl, I take you don't watch Japanese TV, because she's appeared on it every day for the past week. Nice acting at the press conference by Erika, by the way. herefornow, how many of her movies have you seen? She's actually a pretty good actress, much better than most in Japan.

Erika Who?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well this all a relief. She'll be back to showing off her body for our amusement in no time..,

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wouldn't it be great if we all had celebrity 'lifestyles' to return to? :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She's a major twit

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well I can't vouch for her "talent"(although she is quite pretty)but she certainly has a knack for publicity. "Normality" might be a bad career move.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Is the beauty clinic Takano Yuri happy to have a tearful special guest whining about her failed marriage at their PR event?

Ten movies in four years. Pretty good start.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Finally, we too can all get back to "some sense of normality" and get on with our lives. I've lost more than enough sleep over her recent behavior.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Love this girl. Love that she gives the finger to Japanese patriarchy that demands she remain a 12 year-old (can't understand why certain gaijin demand she do the same, though)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

she planned to change her attitude and return to her celebrity lifestyle in Japan

What does that mean? That she'll milk her modest lack of talent as long as she can to suck money from the Japanese public?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What is considered normality?
