Of course a movie like 'Cuties' will raise eyebrows in the conservative South. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the one movie that has always defined Texas and its sensibilities for me. Apart from all those Clint Eastwood and John Wayne westerns.

"Cuties," called "Mignonnes" in French, earned director Doucoure an award at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival.

Given this award and the fact that it is French, means that it it is an arts film and that we should take the crestors' statements of intent at face value - it is unlikely to be gratuitous or for erotic pleasure.

I remember a similar stink about the film 'Last Temptation of Christ' in 1988 and those zealots howled about it, claiming it had disgusting quotes by Jesus that weren't even in the film. It's on here on Japan's Netflix...It's decent film but there's more to it.. The main character is Muslim. Her father just married again (she's very bitter) and she joins a group rebel dance group.. There's no sex in the film just suggestive dancing and a couple of provocative scenes.

She's 12 in the film, I think it would have been less controversial and equally effective is she would have been 16. But all the controversy does is to get more people to watch it....

Out of all the programs Netflix has created over the years, this was the worst decision the company could make, until they listen to the growing majority of viewers that once this show canceled, Amazon and Hulu will be the better option to go, they have the right to express themselves under the first amendment and so do we.
