The Coen Brothers are usually reliable for quality and this film still delivers.

That said, I don't believe a sequel will help. It really is a standalone film.

If you are not Jewish, much of the movie goes well beyond and over your head. The subtle deep Jewish/Yiddish humor is progressive and very enriching.

I did not like it at first though, but it grew on me, when my NY friends told me to watch it again. I said Shalom and it grew into another funny cult movie like Office Space, Animal House and Lost in Translation in my collection.

I watched National Lampoon's Animal House again the other day. Wow, has that aged badly. Very dodgy misogyny under the guise of humour. More interesting is the story behind one of its creators - Doug Kenney. It's on Netflix here - A Futile and Stupid Gesture.

The Big Lebowski is definitely a grower, however, I wouldn't say it's representative of all Jewish humour - as its so varied, Danny Kaye, Lenny Bruce, Seinfeld, Judd Aptow, Jon Stewart, Sarah Silverman etc. If you want bona fide Coen Brothers does Jewish humour, try A Serious Man. Very different to Lebowski but worth a look.

Lebowski and Withnail and I would be two of my favorite "stoner" films. A cut above Cheech & Chong or Harold & Kumar, if I was being snobby. Which I am.

It's comedy.

It's comedy.

Rape jokes and sexual assault may have been funny back in '78 but they've sort of lost their shine, don't you think?

And I named several other films and comedians in my reply to Haruka, which you seem to have overlooked.

You’re killing your father, Larry.

This is arguably the funniest movie ever made. Jeff Bridges' The Dude had me rolling throughout the movie.

"Yeah, well, that's just like, your opinion, man." hahahahahahahahahahahaha
