Yawn. Why not create an original story about a female spy if there is such a demand for it?

Where does this end a version of the Passion with Jessica Christ?

It's bound to happen, only a matter of time.

Historians will look back on this period we're in after a few more years and study how and why western society became such a self-hating, PC obsessed thing.

I enjoy smart, capable, female characters. Of course, everyone has an opinion about that and who they think would be good in a specific role.

I'm hopeful about Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor. It will be difficult to be liked as a woman in that roll. River and Mary-Jane drove me crazy and they weren't even "the doctor."

I'd say that Gillian Anderson should be Q, if in a Bond film. A new Bond should be under 30, IMHO. And should have a physical presence.

A female version of an archetypal 1950's misogynist? Such a lame idea, they won't be able to stop themselves from doing it in Hollywood. Two predictions:

1- Yes, there will be a female James Bond. She will use men as sex objects. Maybe have a female lover as well, since that's also the "in" thing now.

2-The film will be a complete flop at the box office.

If you want original stories with absorbing plots and characters, you have to look outside the Hollywood system. They make better movies in Iran these days, with 100th of the budget.

Well...let's see how "Atomic Blonde" does at the box office.

It seems there are already some Jane Bond movies. They look pretty good actually.

A woman playing 007 won't be that bad. Dame Judy Dench plays M.

Thinking about what will make money, in this case "Sexism" just like in music

rather than a good script that will make a good plot and a good box office.

Hollywood has run out of ideas, money, money and no substance.

Michael Craig - "played" M.

They killed her off and replaced her with Ralph Fiennes.

And a female Bond would be horrific for everyone involved.

What a supid article. James Bond may be fictional, but unlike the Doctor he isn't a time travelling alien from Gallifrey with the ability to regenerate. James Bond is a male human, the Doctor is a gender fluid alien.

Well; given that Bond is a misogynistic, violent product of his environment and training and is quintessentially the macho British spy personified - I don't believe it would work. Whereas the Doctor is a time travelling, shape shifting alien who has transcended the limits of gender - so a female actor makes sense.

007 is more likely to be black or brown or mixed race etc; in the future. Of course; people will moan at that and claim it's yet another example of the End of Days, too.

Toasted Heretic - perhaps Bond (and all real-life British spies) should go through sensitivity training?

I think you have nailed this one. There is nothing gender-specific about the Doctor, even if the role has always been played by a man in the past, whereas the role of Bond is clearly one that belongs to the male sex.

While he needs to be male, he does not need to be white. Some reactionaries will point to the original character, but that is irrelevant. Bond would have been born in about 1910, when Britain was very white so a non-white Bond was not really an option.

Gillian Anderson is too old for the role, but would be a great M.

Actually; she's 6 months younger than Daniel! But she's not Bond. She'd be a good M but am waiting to see how Fiennes pans out. He's got tough shoes to fill after the magnificent Judy Dench.

Perhaps you should read my post again, less you miss the point of why Bond is Bond and cannot be female.

dont need to read it twice to get the message received the 1st time, and we both know what that is.

And what message did you get?

Was it the one I posted on why Bond is Bond because of his environment and training?

Or have you changed tack and now disagree and think a female actor would be suitable?

I'm afraid (as I stated earlier) that this will not work. Why do you think it would?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Actually; she's 6 months younger than Daniel!

Craig is nearly 50 and his first Bond was in 2006. He is about to be retired and be replaced by a new Bond. A new Bond should be late 30s.

Doesn't make any sense given the premise of 007, yet I know it will happen because there's an all out assault on men and male institutions in the West. Why can't we make some new IP and make them female instead of continuing to attack anything that's male (or white or straight for that matter)? Look at Ripley from the Alien franchise - we want more of that.

At least with Dr who it kind of makes sense. But Thor and 007? Yeaaaaah...

I do think, sometimes, that some people just aren't comfortable with the 21s century. The era where women can do their own thing, be equals, box office success, lead countries, institutions, inspire respect and global followings. No longer do they remain in shadows, play the secretary, assistant or obedient wife etc.

To those who feel threatened by the equality and success of women; there are still places in the world where one can go to where women are kept out of the limelight, not allowed drive, sing, dance, run for office and so on.

Not places even 007 would feel comfortable in, I'll warrant :-)

What?

I think all those who are opposed to a "Jane Bond" are saying just that, that they should do their own thing.

BTW, I loved Salt, with Angelina Jolie...

@Toasted Heretic - You seem to be the only one with an issue here, all I'm seeing are people expressing an opinion of creating new female characters rather than constantly taking classic male characters and re-purposing them to fit in with the all new PC friendly world that is the 21st Century.

I want more Ripley's, Sarah O'Connor's, Elizabeth Swann's, Princess Leia's, Hermione Granger's, Bridget Jones', The Bride's, Clarice Starling's. Original characters that carried their own movies or stood shoulder to shoulder with their male co-stars.

Just leave the Bond's, Holmes' and King Arthur's as they are, they ain't hurting anyone.

First female Time Lord? Seriously? You are aware that even in this last season we've had another female Time Lord. Her name was Missy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

A female time lord is a time lady. Lady is nobility like a lord, woman is common like a man.

Transgender transracial furry James bond, please. I want to see him(?) hitting on Moneypenny's cat.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ah_so: I would rather see a younger James bond than that. 15-20. Sean Connery was downright stranger danger geriatric old guy hitting on people young enough to be his granddaughter. Craig is old enough to be a grandfather. Definitely need younger...

In the books Bond was mid to late 40's, shuffled papers when not on assignments, gets hurt/nearly died while on assignments, tired and thinking about retirement.

Connery Bond movies were closest to the books. Moore, etc movies only shared the book titles.

no, a muslim bond. Now we're talking!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

how about an obese transgender person of color bond?
