A lot of class and sharp wit

Some of y'all tough guys clearly never been hit unexpectedly before. It takes a couple seconds to figure out what happened. Particularly when the other guy is jacked, and you're Chris Rock. Which, let's give him props for dealing with that as amazingly as anyone ever could, trying to crack a joke and move on with the show.
Hiro
Guy was slapped in front of millions of viewers like a clown and then also got cursed it. Chris actually was able to endure the humiliation and act like it’s a joke. If it was me, i don’t care how famous or rich Smith think he is, I would have hit back considering he struck first.
He assaulted another person and humiliated him so technically you can also sue Smith for both physical and emotional pain.
Mr Kipling
Here is Will Smith making a very similar joke about someones hair a few years back....

What gave you that silly idea?! I know a few couples who are in open marriages and they have been doing fine for years.

Why is Will smith getting away with this? Is it because he’s black and it’s expected? Is it because he’s black and folks don’t wanna look racist?
A gentleman would have given a warning first about Rocks joke. Furthermore, anyone attending this clown show should expect to get roasted.

Chris Rock's jab at Jada was terrible. Yes, it was an awful joke. That being said, Will's response to it was inappropriate. He should have taken the high road and let his words do the fighting.
He could've said something like "Is picking on a beautiful, innocent woman the best you can do? I guess that's why "Everybody Hates Chris" (in reference to Chris Rock's failed sitcom).
Or maybe saying something like "Yo Chris, you must have been looking deep in the toilet for a joke like that since that's why your face looks like the way it looks".
Will would've gotten way more respect and admiration instead of taking the easy way out by resorting to violence.
Tomi
I would have slapped back the arrogant dude with a right hook straight away.
Who does he think he is?

Your comment is garbage. Two black guys did NOT fight onstage. One guy smacked another, and if a black person wasn't involved, people like you would be colorblind. If you wish, you can catch several real fights on any given night in the NHL. Phony and hypocritical outrage.
Peter14
And yet still no apology from Chris Rock to Jada. He should also be banned from future hosting gigs and relegated to cheap bars doing comedy nights.
Is it ok to tell black jokes now that dieases are back on the table as acceptable? Just asking where the line is today. It seems to change a lot.
TokyoJoe
Let's diversify the Oscars! End result, two black guys fighting on the stage on live tv like animals. You happy now Hollywood, you have absolutely no integrity left now, nothing. Bottom of the barrel has been scraped.

Just another overpaid entertainer who thinks that they are something special. Smith just proved that he is just the same as some yobbo having a punch on in the local backwoods pub. So why wasn't he immediately ejected from the venue? Where was the security staff.
Michael Machida
I don't think this was fake. I wish it was, but from the people at the venue, this was not fake.
gogogo
Firstly, it's all fake... you see Chris rock ready to take the slap in the video.
Second, if this were white on black any other combo people would be going mental... why is black on black violence just accepted?
Last, Rock tells jokes, they burn, they are suppose to, if you can't handle the joke directed at you or your family you are in the wrong industry.
NOMINATION
I agree even in L.A. where they catch and release criminals daily for doing worse things.
Mocheake
Both of these are hilarious!

Reinforcing a stereotype, still leaves it as a stereotype. Leave it at that.

I don't think the joke was the reason Smith assaulted Rock. Smith is seating directly in front of the steps. Watching the play back I think what set him off was when Rock said "That was a nice one.” The implication was Rock could make a joke about Jada Smith infidelity/open relationship. I think that pushed him over the edge. That when he jumps up and Rock pauses as he's not sure what's happening.
stormcrow
This is the first time that an Academy Award’s host has ever been assaulted on stage, let alone on live TV. Worse yet, from the back community’s perspective, it was a black man committing violence in front of the world and this just reinforces the racial stereotype of the “angry black man”.
I like Will Smith, but he should have chosen another avenue to vent his frustration at Chris Rock.

no one is watching the oscars this year (just check the rates) and no one will next year, but nice try.
Garthgoyle
And that right there, explains cancel culture, the flakes generation and life since 2007 when the first iPhone was released.
Michael Machida
If I walked up on stage and hit Chris Rock, I would be in jail without bond.
Rodney
Obviously staged. It’s Hollywood right.
Alex
If he was so offended why did Will Smith laugh? fishy the whole thing smells like desperate PR

Jim Carey spoke some good words on this. Most comments say he is right and the only person saying the right thing.

It is this way on comedy today.
If you are a comedian with a disability they you can make jokes about people with disabilities and fully able body. If you are also LGBTQ....then you can add jokes about that group, if you are also a visible minority then you have a few more categories of jokes you can us, if you are also a woman then more. All the above still gives you permission to make jokes about any straight male or caucasian group unless you are a man then no jokes at the "expense" of women.
If you are a Caucasian heterosexual male comedian, your only safe categories are jokes about heterosexual caucasian males and animals ( this could trigger PETA so caution) or you could go the safer route, go back to school and change jobs.
ebisen
There are things you don't joke about... This is one of them. Good for Smith for slapping some fookin'sense in that idiot. I would have done the same. I don't get it, why do his millions or the millions others with alopecia don't have matter here? How woke must one be to invoke whataboutism in such a case? His wife was not laughing and looked pretty hurt, enough reason for such a reaction. Free speech with consequences.

I guess Smith forgot his own words.
After making jokes about a bald guy and some of the audience sort of didn't approve.
Smith said:
guess he has changed his mind now that the shoe is on his personal territory.
