Keep going lads.

I don’t know what the critics of your age want you to do. Slippers and brandy in front of the fireplace? A spot of light gardening?

Great band.

The band returned to its blues roots in 2016 with the release of "Blue & Lonesome," which earned the Stones a Grammy Award for best traditional blues album.

Listening to their back-catalogue, you realise how much a blues more than a rock band the Stones always have been.

Great at dressing it up in rock and roll though for all those years - 6 decades and counting.

I'd have to disagree. They are almost the definition of a rock band. That anglicized blues sound is one of the defining features of rock n roll. The covers from the first 10 years are bluesy but the real reveal is when they start writing their own material which is at first anyway, quite less bluesy (Tell Me, Out of Time etc.). I think Dylan was right when he said that rock n roll was the sound of the mixing of black and white musicians/music (which is why it was killed off via re-marketing along racial lines with "rock" being aligned with white culture and the term "soul" being invented for black culture).

Either way, it was nice to hear them get a bit gritty again with the B&L record.

I have to wonder though what a US tour has to do with Japan (in a JP newspaper)?

I bet it would have been a different story if they were women.

I don't think so. If it were women renowned for their singing and music (Tina Turner, Shirley Bassey, Carole King) I would expect similar respect.

If it were men or women more renowned for their youthfulness than their talent (the Spice Girls, the Osmonds), then I expect the comments would be equally nasty.

No matter what one thinks about Rolling Stones, whew, you have to admire their work ethic!

Saw them long ago in LA when Guns n Roses opened up for them, late 80’s. Hope they go to LA. Lots of Stones fans here.

Wow, no ageism in the comments so far! I bet it would have been a different story if they were women. You know, like, stop it, grandma, act your age.

Fair play to them. I don't rate their stuff since the single "Undercover of the Night" and just how long ago was that?

Mick and Keef, still keeping it, er, real...

"Keith Richards is proof that drugs and cigarettes do not kill everybody."

True! But the lines in his face are so deep, I expect prairie dogs to jump out of them at any time.

They 'started up' their 50 year anniversary tour and haven't stopped! And they've been releasing 2CD/1DVD live sets of past concerts out the yinyang as well. They just keep on rolling.....

I think Dylan was right when he said that rock n roll was the sound of the mixing of black and white musicians/music (which is why it was killed off via re-marketing along racial lines with "rock" being aligned with white culture and the term "soul" being invented for black culture).

And what do those dum-dums label the psychedelic rock that the Beatles pioneered in when George learned to play the sitar? Not to mention rock is performed and loved by people all over planet Earth. Rock'n'roll music began as a fusion of 'black' + 'white' music and now people of every color and race like it and play it.

Both times I've seen the Stones I've seen people of every color at the show. There's been white, black, Japanese, Chinese students (I've seen the Stones both times at a university stadium), Arabians, India subcontinent types and Native Americans.

J-Dake They are almost the definition of a rock band.

Absolutely. They started out as a blues-rock and rockabilly band but they morphed it into the 'Stonesy' sound, inventing hard rock - a feat of far-reaching influence. That led to other genres incl. glam-rock, heavy metal, garage, punk rock, country rock, Southern rock, and more. Let's not forget the Stones themselves dabbled with reggae, funk, disco, folk, etc.
