who is this person?

She's an academy award winning actress who has been in many large Hollywood hits for 20+ years. Extremely famous, though I guess if you don't watch movies or read anything to do with movies whatsoever, you wouldn't know who she was.

She basically stole the most recent Mad Max movie. Right from under Tom Hardy's nose.

Saw her for the first time taking the kids to see Mighty Joe Young in 1998. Great that she's still going strong.

Theron you're some will go watch you or some other female because you are hot

not because of the storyline or script.

Holywood like the music industry ran out of ideas a long time ago, the only thing selling

these days is sexism.

Bit harsh; no? Half the planet is female. Maybe people watch certain actors because they like their output?

Meryl Streep springs to mind. Tilda Swinton. Old school here but Bette Davis never put a foot wrong...

even Doctor Who has been made into a woman.

'Made into a woman'? Seriously, the writer not only has zero knowledge of Doctor Who but also possesses poor English skills. It's embarrassing.

Popularity fuels your pay rates - not what sex you are.

But they have to be given the opportunity in the first place. As Theron has said herself failure is a “rite of passage” for men, while women, especially attractive women, need to work twice as hard in order to be taken seriously.

These women need to stop complaining about pay equality and worry about improving their craft

Kristin Scott Thomas, Susan Sarandon, Jessica Lange, Emma Thompson, Judie Dench, Cate Blanchett, Jessica Chastain. Should get double what some of their male co-stars get.

It's hard to get worked up over an actress - Theron - who makes millions $$$ complaining that an actor makes a few million more than she does.

I saw the Wonder Woman movie and I thought it was good. The actress did a good job and I would watch a sequel. Sure there was the usual sexism and social justice warrior stuff as can be expected from Hollywood these days. I just roll my eyes and try to enjoy the movie anyway.

But here is a suggestion for Theron - stop whining and complaining and start your own movie company and pay what you want to pay your actors and actresses. If your ideas about compensation are correct and you can make decent movies with female leads - you will be successful.

It comes down to a systemic problem of sexism and ageism that is reflective of the society in which they exist. Actors can control a lot of factors on the business/artistic/production side but not their gender and not their age. Women are shut out from older parts especially because those characters are not written to the degree they are for men.

One of her quibbles with action films centered on female protagonists is that the characters are always given a backstory or a justification for why they became warriors."We don't need to lose a child or a husband or have some kind of revenge story to become a warrior," Theron said. "(Lorraine) exists. She's simply her. We don't ever over-explain why she exists or why she's any good at her job."

Exactly; Bond's backstory wasn't revealed until Skyfall. Afaik; Ethan Hunt is still not given to exposition of his motivations. And I don't know about the rest of ye but am tired of origin stories for the likes of Batman and Superman. We know the score.

"I always say to studios, 'Make more female-driven movies,' " Theron said. "They said, 'We would if people go and see them.' So go see those movies!"

Charlize Theron's own 'back story' is interesting enough (see her on the Actor's Studio from 2004) for 'Lorraine' not to need one.

Hollywood pay rates are based upon bankability - plain and simple. There is no such practice of studios simply paying a man more because he's a man, and a woman less because she's a woman. Actors/Actresses get put into a hierarchy - A List, B List, C List - with their past box office grosses dictating who goes where. These women need to stop complaining about pay equality and worry about improving their craft. Popularity fuels your pay rates - not what sex you are. And if an actor and actress are at the same general level - it comes down to their agent and how good they are at doing their job.

.And for all those girls who decide that a quick romp is easier than hard work and struggle for years, the ones who refuse that path have to prove that they are more talented on stage/film/tv than those who want the easy path.

And the men who take advantage of them? Do they have to prove anything?

Toasted: You can name anyone you want to name. You have to place the female name of your choosing next to the leading man who shared the film, and who was considered the draw of the film. And also, as mentioned, who had the better agent negotiating their performance fee, any backend percentages, etc.

That's a bit of a leap from telling women actors to stop complaining and work harder, wouldn't you say?

It's usually who you know, what you're willing to do that the other guy/girl isn't (use your imagination), and a lot of luck, as well. Women have to work twice as hard because there is a never ending conveyor belt of perfect young ladies streaming thru the door every day.

____-

There are a lot of handsome younger men as well but you never see James Bond getting younger just like you don't see his girlfriends getting older. A situation with a middle age woman and man 20 years her junior is nearly inconceivable outside of films going for the perverted factor.

No, those who are in position of power have to prove nothing. Why? Because they are in a position of power.

It's no leap - as an actor/actress - what can you control? You can work on your craft since nobody can do it for you (applies to any level/status of performer). You can network more (especially for those not at the A-List level). And you can surround yourself with killers (agent, manager, etc). Oh yea, and can stop complaining.

This. But I think it will change; there are bigger roles and more female directors out there. Yes, the "men" will complain and mansplain about how women just aren't a box office draw/capable/interesting/sexy enough but a change is gonna come.

So kill the story build up? These people just don't make sense. If it is a great story and great actor, then the character will be developed and thus the female actor will get more money. Can't expect a movie to be good and liked just because there is a female lead. Life is not fair /:

Liza: Nobody has to be given anything. It's show business. And anyone involved in it for real will tell you it's not the most talented or deserving who wins the race. It's usually who you know, what you're willing to do that the other guy/girl isn't (use your imagination), and a lot of luck, as well.
