In fact this was a productive time for them, when they created some of their best work

I don’t know about that. It’s worth saying that ‘Let it Be’, regarded as a weaker Beatles album, would be most other bands’ masterpiece, but I don’t think it is anywhere near the stuff released from 65-68. For me, the best track on ‘Let it Be’ was ‘Across the universe’ which written years earlier.

‘Two of Us’ is an under appreciated gem.
