Saw it some years back and the cut included the pre-titles theatrical music and the intermission. It was charming and the first time I'd seen it on the big screen, after years of seeing it on the telly. Such a difference.

Hoping for a restoration (or whatever process is involved now) for Tarkovsky's Solaris and maybe Stalker, next.

I sure hope this comes to Tokyo. I'd love the chance to see this masterwork in fully glory. Hopefully this "unrestored" idea will become more popular. There are many films that many people have likely never had the chance to see as the filmmakers intended.

I saw the first release in Cinerama in 1968 at the Golden Gate theater in San Francisco. Went back a few times over the year before it left town. You can't explain this film's experience in that time to anyone, unless they have seen a film that opened them up. You see, it's not just the film, it's also what you bring to it. So, go, sit a little close...get that perfect seat. Five years in the making. And enjoy all that great upholstery in the movie. And that certain British touch. The set designs alone are mind altering. Thanks, Chris. And that other Chris, it would still be better at the Imax than the Castro.

That was done by MosFilm and both were released in new digital restorations last year. Sadly it was not 4K but 2K. Even so, I saw both of these in theatrical releases last year and they were quite stunning. Yes, a lot of that is simply the absolute brilliance of the films (Stalker in particular) themselves. I rate both better than 2001...

Dying to see Stalker, having only read the book "Roadside Picnic" on which it's based. But I missed it when it was showing here recently and the DVD versions available aren't of excellent quality, apparently.

One critic (Kermode, perhaps?) likened Blade Runner 2049 to it, or at least inferred that it may have been inspired by it.
