From the info in this article, he is saying some very reasonable things. These movies cost millions of dollars to produce, and one idiot not following the rules and infecting everyone would be a disaster

You go Tom!

@Peter14

Seems Tom C is fighting for jobs and the industry plus peoples safety...how is that a bad thing?

28 ( +31 / -3 )

Imagine someone being angry because people are making light of their own and others' health and ignoring safety rules? How unreasonable.

exactly.

26 ( +27 / -1 )

Good for Tom. If there are still dropkicks out there who wont take this once-in-a-hundred-year pandemic catastrophe seriously, then they deserve to be yelled at, abused and even fired by Tom. No wonder the UK is on its knees, with lots of people like this over there.

Cant wait for the new movie next year!

23 ( +30 / -7 )

He makes a lot of sense! You have these people who feel like they're exempt from wearing masks by making up excuses and not realizing the risks they're putting themselves and selfishly risking other peoples lives. Stand your ground for yourself, Tom!

19 ( +21 / -2 )

The man has lost his marbles. Time he retired gracefully.

Actually what he is saying makes sense.

He might have lost some of his marbles, but if anything this is evidence that he still has a few left.

19 ( +21 / -2 )

He is absolutely correct.

Everyone should be happy that they are able to make a movie during this pandemic, so following at least the basic rules must be everyone's personal mandatory.

But if my memory is correct, Tom Cruise was already infected a few weeks ago, right?

10 ( +14 / -4 )

Tom Cruise is a weirdo, but I suspect he is right about this.

People do not take this virus seriously endangering themselves and others around them!!!

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Regardless of whether he's famous or not, businesses have the responsibility to keep people safe.

It is no different from standard workplace safety where you need everyone to observe safety protocols just that in this case the protocols are new.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

seems reasonable to me. he's the boss.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Well, at least his anger is justified, and he's arguing against people not taking the proper measures and doing their jobs. Had he been yelling at them for WEARING masks or keeping social distance, that would be something else.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

I don't blame him one bit. I had to rant at my own homeroom students the other day for not social distancing or wearing their masks. I asked them if they'd prefer to be at home doing Zoom lessons like they were from April to June or be at school with their friends. They got the point.

Fact is though, so many people just don't want to wear masks so they come up with all kinds of excuses why masks don't work or how wearing a mask is just being a sheep. Mostly anti-vaxxers and Corbett Report viewers that think they know better.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

this goes to show how the title can shape what you expect to read. i was expecting a diva-ish article about cruise being an arse, but the article actually portrays him in a good light. just one person being an idiot on set can affect the livelihood of all their colleagues. i'm glad cruise laid down the law and told them to follow all the necessary precautions.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

He did it again, just like jumping on the couch but this time, his emotion is on the right path to wrong people.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Cruise in July personally appealed to Norway's prime minister to shoot parts of the film in Norway under modified quarantine rules.

The authorities are only allowing this production as long as they don't spread the virus

A single virus outbreak, the authorities would shut them down - millions down the drain

2 ( +2 / -0 )

You're mixing up your own disdain toward mask wearing with being on a film set with protocols for mask wearing and COVID prevention.

No, I’m saying, I just wouldn’t take or allow anyone to yell at me like that. I work n the business when I’m in the States and met some of these people and some are nice, but a lot f them have very big and inflated egos. Cruise seems like a nice guy, respect hm, but the yelling was way over the top and just unnecessary.

If your view is to criticize the producer...the money of the project and your boss...for getting mad at not adhering to the rule of mask wearing, then you don't understand how business works.

I do know exactly how it works and because I know this business, I just wouldn’t allow someone to yell at me like that, but most people usually don’t anyway.

When a protocol is set, workers must follow them. If one doesn't want to follow the rules, don't take the job.

The people working for him already knew the rules, and broke them. Cruise has every right to be livid. It's his money, his job and his livelihood at stake in prevention of a pandemic that could shut down not only this production, but many more.

You are right and I agree with you, but I’m an adult man and you talk to me like an adult, not like some trash on the street or like a spoiled child, that’s where I draw the line..

It isn't about him being celebrity, he's the boss in his role as producer

Yes and as such, treat your respect, I have people working underneath me and for one thing, a personal grievance with someone, I will pull them aside while we are alone and then talk about it or whatever, but I will not insult anyone or belittle anyone else in front of others.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

RESPECT! Therefor, I'll def watch - ONLINE.

Scientology counseling can cure COVID, which is a plague sent from Xenu. Diarrhoetics is the answer.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Except for the Scientology aspect, I really like this guy. Even moreso now.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Tom is a strange guy but he’s not wrong. Tom is famous for being incredibly polite and not cursing. So I don’t doubt him if the situation was seriousenough for him to drop the

Still better than the Christian Bale rant over stage lights ages ago hehe. That was seriously over nothing

1 ( +1 / -0 )

It's disturbing how many people here think it's fine to yell at, berate and bully employees. Mr Cruise has problems if that's how he deals with people he's unhappy with. He's not worried about people's houses or their health. He's worried about his movie and his ego. In August, Mr Cruise saw Tenet in London at the cinema and the social distancing in the video coverage looked pretty minimal. You can find it on YouTube.

This smells staged to me. Hard to believe that both this recording slipped out of Cruise’s fort knox Scientology-fortified publicity cadre AND that Tom is thinking about other people’s troubles. A rant would be easy enough to swallow though. Sounds like a free publicity move to me. Maybe I’m just cynical?

I kinda wonder the same myself. Remember that 'Scientology says: cure post-baby birth depression by diet and exercise crap'? Maybe he's beginning to see thru that cult fog. Not to mention he has Suri to tend to.

Tom was being a hypocrite. Cast and crew are all tested for covid regularly. Crew wear masks at all times but Cast do not. On camera they do not social distance nor wear masks.

Failure to provide a covid safe work environment is Toms fault. They clearly needed Two screens but only had one. Crew work just as hard to make movies, get paid much less money and are just as reliant on films not being shut down as Tom is. Since the industry was closed down for many months they are all well aware of the cost to themselves if this film shuts down.

Tom's grandstanding was a release of pent up tension and anger and he let fly at crew doing their best, but lapsing on 2 meter rule when working together reviewing footage by the sounds of things around only one monitor. He should have been professional. He went about it in the wrong way.

0 ( +6 / -6 )

J-drake, yes you are, but you are probably right.

The fault lay with the failure to provide sufficient screens.

I am sure the rest of the time they were adhering to the safety rules, a momentary lapse in to doing what you would ordinarily do does not warrant some grossly over paid luvvie having a temper tantrum and screaming at you or threatening your job.

Wouldn’t blame the unions if they pulled the whole crew out until he apologised!

Mission Impossible for everyone to comply!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In August, Mr Cruise saw Tenet in London at the cinema and the social distancing in the video coverage looked pretty minimal.

The impact is different when you don't follow covid safety protocols in your personal life vs work life. I'm pretty sure the insurance company won't cover a production shutdown if they know safety protocols were lax and people weren't following them. Cruise is trying to be the gold-standard in Hollywood, showing the industry that movies can be made safely during the pandenmic. I'd give credence to your opinion that he's a bully if we'd heard about this type of behaviour before, but I think this is the first time.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Some people don't take things seriously that they learn 1-20 people are fired. It is clear that the production company wants to make a movie, but also follow some rules, whatever that means. Longer time to completion. Hassles getting things done are all expected. Follow the rules. They are serious.

Worked at a place where they had to fire 20 people of about 300 in a test deployment for violating some rules. After that happened, word got around to everyone else and the other 20K employees didn't violate those rules.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There is just NO way I would ever allow anyone to get in my face and yell at me like that celebrity or not, if the guy gets angry because he wants people to wear the darn mask and they don’t, he can talk to the people, calmly and rationally, no reason for the guy to get obnoxious and verbally abusive like that. Like Tucker Carlson said the other day, “guess Scientology doesn’t calm you down.” I like Cruise, seems like an overall nice guy usually, but that was over the line, just glad it wasn’t me on the set. Always stay calm and focused.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Sure. You wouldn’t listen to the person with authority to tell you what to do.

Yes

Is quite verbally abusive.

And why his audience size is increasing.

Are you saying you would have stayed calm and focused on what your employer told you to do even though he was shouting at you?

Not if he shouted.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

No need to bully employees and be obscene...

Tom could have made his point without acting like a puffed-up jock giving a kid a wedgie in H.S.

How about giving a speech about masks and social distancing and warning all employees that failure to comply will result in their firing?

Screaming at the top of his lungs at powerless employees impresses you people on here?

You think bulling powerless underlings is the sign of a strong leader?

I will be boycotting all Tom Cruise movies

Excellent point, spot on.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wouldn’t blame the unions if they pulled the whole crew out until he apologised!

As a former production professional, I belong to a few online production crew union chat groups. I assure you that the prevailing opinion is in favor of Cruise's action on that set.

The vast majority of production professionals have been out of work since March. They all know how privileged are the few who are working. And, they are angry at any of their brothers or sisters who take that privilege lightly.

Leah Remini, who managed to escape from Cruise's cult of Scientologists, says she thinks the whole thing is a PR ploy by the Scientologists to make their religion look good.

At first she comes across as bitter, but when you listen to the stories from people who have left Scientology, it starts to sound a lot more plausible.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

it starts to sound a lot more plausible.

...her theory, not Scientology.

Whilst people might not like getting sworn at by Mr. Cruise, I'll be they like themselves or their loved ones getting gravely ill and possible dying even less.

Everybody was wearing masks. He was upset because he saw 2 crew members looking at a computer screen with less than 2 meters between them.

On the Mayweather-Logan Paul PPV undercard, I'd pay to see Cruise vs Covid-19.
