How do politicians get away with this sort of crap?

Hey Trump, don't come around here no more....

Back in the 80s, Bryan Adams was apparently first choice for the Top Gun soundtrack but he knocked it back saying it glorified the military. The film itself was funded by the Pentagon.

"Tom Petty's family tells Trump not to use late rock star's songs for 'campaign of hate'"

Pretty sure it's not hard for someone on the team to ask for permission there, pal.

@bass

Not sure what you're on about, but most of what we're seeing didn't start with the Democrats 3.5 years ago. It's been a long time coming.

Trump is arguably the most powerful person on Earth, and yet he still act like he's a victim of an oppressive regime. He's been president for 4 years and yet he still blames Obama. So insecure.

there are plenty of artists that will allow the President to use their music.

For example?

Tell me, and I will make sure to never purchase or listen to their songs ever...

Maybe Trump can get Chachi to sing Happy Days.

Gene Simmons, Ted Nugent, Kid Rock, Kanye West, Wayne Newton. And I guess Ralph Macchio isn't a musician, so that makes all of about five.

Trump's campaign will get to choose from such gems as Cat Scratch Fever and Daddy, Don't You Walk So Fast.

Liberals have to understand that the ghost of Tom Petty serves at the pleasure of this president.

Interesting, coming from a band that sang about "I was born a rebel, one foot in the grave, one on the pedal"

Im trying to figure out, who gets a wash and who doesnt? Seems all kind of fake and disingenuous to me.

This isnt Tom Petty talking. Its his “estate”.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Yeah but we have had allot of cleanses and washes lately. I saw something here about Axl Rose being all critical of some Trump admin official. Interesting because I seem to remember songs that were controversial, to say the least. At one concert I saw a rebel flag being lowered down. Other comedians and shock jocks, said all kinds of controversial things about gays, disabled people, women. Some of your gangsta rappers, that stuff in the 80s and 90s was quite...interesting?

So now these people....they get the wash or whats going on with that?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Trump is misogynistic, Trump is a bigot, Trump is a racist....ok...but what about this music or joke you made?

That gets a wash because.......????

Thank you!

Lucky me, I haven't got a single song by those people and never will :-)

Its all good they get a wash and are "reformed" but allot of that music and behavior influenced culture and how people thought and you could argue might even be responsible for the culture of today.

Gomen, but Im not really sold when one of them starts their lecture. Some of us have memories.

Im not a fan of Nugents personality (his instrumental "Hibernation" is classic) but at least he is consistent.

Good on Tom Petty’s family.

Now watch the racists go after them.

Careful commercial calculation there by the estate and those raking in the cash, which market is larger and more likely to pay up for his kind of music.

The old dudes at the Trump event have not heard of Tom Petty. Wayne Newton is about the right age slot for the Fox news crowd. How about Danke Schoen. Foreign words so not good but German so OK. Also Newton has gone bankrupt so he shares that with Trump.

All this garbage about Trump being a racist etc is just that - garbage.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

its time to call out the real racist. Biden please stand up!

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

during the song "civil war" a US and rebel flag were both lowered, as I recall, so in the context of the song, was not racist but some of their music, I cant imagine today it being acceptable, there is no way, people would go bizzerk.

Perhaps I have missed it, but its interesting no apologies or explanations for things done at that time, but everything Trump does is critiqued. Statues get destroyed but other media remains. As I am from that generation, I dont feel anything about it but it todays climate, why do some get a wash, others destroyed?

Strange.

TP repeatedly said that the "Southern Accents" phase with its confederate symbols was a mistake and he regretted it.

Calling Biden racist is like calling trump a super athlete!!!

Time for some Biden research ulysses. What you find will surprise you.

The Southern Accents phrase?

Southern Accents is not a phrase, its a beautiful song originally done by Johnny Cash

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There is no mention of the Confederates in that song, its a song about the Southern Accent. No need to cleanse or change it to some new narrative.

Tom did use the rebel flag in earlier years, being from Gainsville there was a Southern Rock movement in those years, that combined R&B with licks and other styles. Your correct before he died he said he regretted it.

Not really, he is a career politician, therefore an opportunist, no surprises. He jumped on the Obama ticket because it served him and he got a wash for past sins, but your right, seems there are many.....)

Another joke, another buffoon.
