Hollywood can’t resist letting great first-run, original series like The Sopranos just ‘cut to black”. - Do we really need to know anymore about what happened before or after a great story?

Never watched one show of the first one so this is an easy pass.

Sometimes we watch Barnaby in Midsommer Murders as there’s very little useless dialog, no social justice crap, and no stupid gun action.

Midsommer Murders averages 5 deaths per episode @FizBit 8:53am, far surpassing a sporadic, yet violent bit of carnage on The Sopranos.

And, “No stupid gun action but Midsommer has shotgun blasts to the face, arterial spurting from relentless stabbings, etc. - They’ve been creative (cheese, concrete,) with the majority of gun-less deaths in 24 years but the imaginary ‘Midsommer’ county would be the 5th most dangerous place to live in England & Wales.

Fair enough @Kentarogaijin 8:46pm. So, you will agree Japan easily exceeds Hollywood in excess at “milking silly fans” with in-house merchandizing in the theatres and abundant sequels advertised as “The Roadshow”, “The Final”, “The End 2.0”, etc.?

Plus, Japan uses marketing gimmicks with Anime by linking a series of previously-televised episodes into one theatrical release movie?

Why not? You don't have to watch it, you're not making a bad argument, but there are millions that enjoy prequels (this is why with the success of Game of Thrones, you bet the studio execs will capitalize on that huge market because they the big bucks will be flowing in, so I don't think it's a bad thing to make a prequel or even a sequel if the movie was good. Can't cater to just the few that aren't interested, you need to focus on what the masses want or would like to see.

More film about what Amerika knows best.

Among a zillion other things.

I'm looking forward to it. I re-watched the Sopranos during covid - it's a great series, still holds up well. There are some right gut-wrenching moments, and that final scene was one of the biggest gotchas in cinematic history as far as I'm concerned.

Wasn’t making an argument *@bass4funk 11:50pm** made an observation about Hollywood continuing to fall back on the same IP’s again & again, to the point of over-saturation, and/or ruining the story we’ve already been told & enjoyed for IT was.*

*- @bass4funk 11:50pm: responding to [Hollywood can’t resist…- Do we really need to know anymore about what happened before or after a great story?] - “Why not? You don't have to watch it, you're not making a bad argument,…”*

But @bass4funk 11:50pm, 1 of 5 planned Game of Thrones sequels’ pilot movie was filmed and was so terrible they decided not to release it. 3 of the other ideas have since been cancelled.  One remains yet, from closed-screenings with test audiences, former fans have expressed they’re no longer interested.

*- @bass4funk 11:50pm: “… millions enjoy prequels (this is why with the success [??] of ‘Game of Thrones’, you bet the studio execs will capitalize on that huge market because they the big bucks will be flowing in, so I don't think it's a bad thing to make a prequel or even a sequel if the movie was good. *

HBO’s Song of Ice & Fire (GOT) concluded with such a miserable, unfulfilling ending that the author, GRRMartin is, presumedly, no longer interested in finishing the epic himself and has refused ‘ghost writers’ to finish it with his outlines.  He’s now moved on the other projects with what little time he has left on this earth. For studiois and audiences, why invest anymore in a story that has no future?

*- @bass4funk 11:50: “Can't cater to just the few that aren't interested, you need to focus on what the masses want or would like to see.*

Well Hollywood did the opposite ad cared less about the established fan base. Since 2016, Hollywood HAS been focusing on catering to a small majority based on the advice of their college interns with certain SJW agendas and most properties have failed miserably. Ghostbusters 2016, Terminator:Dark Fate, WonderWoman 1984, and on and on…

Midsommer is a murder / mystery show right?

What is The Sapranos classified as? A crime drama right. If what you say above is true, then it sounds more like an afternoon Soap Opera fit for lonely housewives and teenage girls. All they do is talk talk talk. My god, no thanks. I have no patience for the useless dribble of soap operas.

To each their own”, eh? @FizzBit 6:39am. - My observations were just contrasting the two styles of shows, British Crime Drama vs American Crime Drama. TheSopranos were great and now, enjoying Your recommendation of Midsommer Murders. (On a side note: there’s not much dialogue and definitely no guns but plenty of trippy, visual gruesomeness in *Midsommar*)
