TV announcer Mariko Oe to marry Monex billionaire Oki Matsumoto

Japanese media were buzzing Wednesday over the announcement that TV Tokyo announcer Mariko Oe, 35, is to marry Oki Matsumoto, 50, the billionaire chairman and CEO of online brokerage Monex Group. It will be Oe's first marriage and Matsumoto's second.

Tabloid media call Matsumoto the 100 million yen man because that is said to be his monthly income. After working at Salomon Brothers and Goldman Sachs, Matsumoto founded Monex in 1998.

Sankei Sports reported Wednesday that the couple met through a mutual acquaintance in March. Oe had just returned from working in the United States. Since March, Oe has been the main newscaster on the TV Tokyo program "World Business Satellite" (Monday to Friday at 11 p.m.).

Matsumoto said on his blog and that he has been single for many years and that it was fate that he should meet and marry Oe.

Oe's management said she is not pregnant and that she will continue working.

Just another perk of being filthy rich. I imagine he'd be well pleased with himself.

Congratulations to the happy couple. To the haters; get a life!

Oe’s management said she is not pregnant

Too funny, so Japanese .... Haven forbid premarital sex!!

Money talks.

"So, what made you decide to marry billionaire Oki Matsumoto, Mariko?"

3 ( +11 / -8 )

I mean, a female announcer's job is pretty short lived. They change all the time and most seem to just get married then appear on variety shows here and there. And the weather girls come and go, but those old male announcer guys go on for 30 years and the only thing that changes is his arm candy. I say to Mariko, go for it!

They met in March? wait...6 months?

I guess the Beatles were wrong. Money CAN buy you love.

@John Galt

It's not about hating, but seriously, do you honestly think a woman like that would marry the average Salary man or any other ordinary person. How about a SoftBank store manager. We all know the answer to that. Of course she has the absolute right to marry anyone she wants, but...anyone saying, she's marrying this guy out of pure love solely is just off their rocking horse. She MAY NOT be a gold digger, but she does see ¥¥¥¥ in her eyes, you can't dispute that. Like most women, she needs some security and being a TV announcer is not a long and lustrous career.

Why is so hard for people to believe that they might be love? I say good luck to them.

The prediction roles in-

Marriage

She will rush to have a baby because "of her age" within 1 year if she is not pregnant already.

She will catch her husband cheating or she will never meet him

Divorce within 2 years

Her and the child will be living in Hawaii and she will return every now and then to appear in variety shows or a camera crew will fly out to Hawaii to follow her life.

Readers, please refrain from posting negative remarks.

How many of those posting the gold digger remarks have actually watched World Business Satellite (or Morning Satellite before it)?

Oe-san is one of the top business TV news hosts in Japan (a little different from your garden variety "announcer"), who is surprised she ends up marrying a wealthy CEO of a securities firm?

Good luck to them both!

Oe’s management said she is not pregnant and that she will continue working.

Because that's the only reason you get married in Japan?

One of the sad things about becoming filthy rich, is that no matter who you end up falling in love with, most people (and 90% of JT commentors) will assume she is marrying you for money. Or if you do find another filthy rich woman, that it is just for business purposes. I say good luck to them

JT your sensors are on a roll today. Does she own stock in your site? No negative comments? Whats the point of having the article up if you don't accept both sides.

Moderator: There are no sides. Try offering them your best wishes.

@Afanofjapan, actually I'd believe that it if he were a bit younger. Many wealthy men do not have money as an obstacle to treat women they way they want to be treated and with age accounted for one also has life experience to know exactly how to seduce a woman much younger. Some degree of charm is required, and money can easily buy charm with a sharp suit, a nice car, a the biggest lure of a "secure" financial situation.

If I was wealthy I really wouldn't have it showing if I could help it when trying to find a woman. My perspective is, "Does she love me for me or for my money?"

If Oki Matsumoto approached the relationship with that in his mind, then I'd be more respective of his personality. But in the end, we all have absolutely no bearing on their lives except for our own little comments.

A large number of posts to this article are disappearing. They pop up and when my browser refreshes they are gone. Is this article a sensitive subject?

Why all the hate?

Best wishes to the happy couple!

Never seen her on TV. Couldn't care less about this.

With warm congratulations to a very special pair, who have found their dearest moments in the happy life they share!

@HonestDictator

50 is not that old, just as 35 is not that young. If it was a 22year old marrying a 70-80 year old (as does happen in the US quite often), then i would be a little taken back, but even then, who knows?

I am sure his money was one factor in her attraction to him, and her beauty was one part of his attraction to her. But to think that is all is too judgemental i believe.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Wonder if she would have married him if he didn't have money....just saying

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Perfect! When she's in her 50's, she'll be filthy rich, still hot and he'll probably be gone. Then she can marry me!!

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Money will always buy you beauty.......Another reason to love money...... :)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Don't be hatin' on the money. The guy could've easily marry a hot actress or model.

With that being said, let's see that pre-nup. That will tell you how much love and trust is there between the two of them.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

if i was him i'd agree... she is crazy hot... oh has similar interests i am sure

2 ( +2 / -0 )

With 90% of the posters commenting about money/wealth, seems like they don't have either.

Money is as important, if not more important, than love. The number one reason for divorce is money issues. You need to have a healthy mix of both; stop being jealous and wish them happiness, it doesn't affect your life at all.

i'm with ryuusei. I can see why this old man find this girl lovely. and im fine with it. who cares what happens though. as long as they found mutual love and understanding in the time they have.

i'm with ryuusei. I can see why this old man find this girl lovely. >

Well, not to be funny but now I'm staring the big 40 down from the barrel of a gun, I just don't think 50 is so old?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

This isn't news. And the comment about her not being pregnant just sums up the toxic Japanese attitudes towards marriage and motherhood.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

I don't see why people get so offended by this kind of union. Men are always going to be attracted to beautiful women, be they 20, or 50. And wealthy men are often confident and very charismatic and offer women complete financial security.

Everyone wins.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Shouldn't be a surprise that rick folks get the perks.

Cngratulation. She was in NY quite a while. She also visited many places in the world. He is rich. so what? His company makes good money, so are other rich people's business, She is cute. He is marrying to a cute TV personal. He is lucky she accepted his proposal.
