TV commercial of the week: Bruce Willis for Daihatsu Mira e:S

This commercial for Daihatsu’s Mira e:S features Bruce Willis — no stranger to Japanese TV commercials.

Japanese actors Katsuhiko Watabiki and Issei Takahashi are in a Japanese restaurant with Willis. Watabiki tells Willis that tofu is healthy for the body, while Takahashi adds that it is also low in calories and cheap. Then Willis makes the connection between tofu (low in calories and reasonably priced) and the Mira e:S, shouting “Daihatsu Mira e:S” because it is an eco-car, light in weight and reasonably priced.

the first one was funny, after that it went downhill. Btw JT please. Just a small thing.

Exactly the kind of car I told my nephew to NEVER ride

Like Tommy Lee Jones... when your movie prospects dry up, come to Japan and do silly commercials. It pays for the mansions and beats sitting in the unemployment line... Better to give up pride than have to give up the home, right?

@americandevil

Ah, but Tommy Lee Jones commercials ae actually good, and has gained cult status. Poor old Bruce is in the low budget bracket, or they paid so much to have him that they could afford a decent advertising agency. The ad's are quite painful to watch (not unlike many ads in Japan though, so in good company?).

What Fiat is in Europe, Daihatsu is in Japan. Light and cheap cars.

Stupid Jpn commercials still remind me of some Arnold Schwarzenetter's ones 15-20 years ago.

Bruce Willis is going down, isn't he? Nah, he's in the next G.I. Joe movie and The Expendables 2.

He was with Subaru back in the 90s. Now Daihatsu. Subaru couldn't afford him, I guess

Too funny. Daihatsu Boss Katsuhiko Watabiki makes me crack up every single time. You are goot Mira e:s salesman

Abunai ...

Two or three times can be funny but more and it gets boring very fast like softbank or boss. They keep changing products every few months why do they have to use the same people over and over again.

What, no explosions?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Oh come on, its funny. I laughed when I saw it.

Weakest CM in the whole series(which now covers 5 or 6 CM???)

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Bruce is cool, but they sure didn't capitalize on it, here.

The guy holding the sign looks like something from Takurazuka, and the loud, over-bearing dude in tortoiseshells is boringly stereo-typical...

If you actually want to sell this dink mobile, get some better CM writers!

@American Devil You're a little too cynical. Tommy Lee Jones was doing commercials in Japan before he did No Country for Old Men and Bruce Willis has got 3 movies coming out this year. I'd hardly say the work is drying up.

abunaiyo abunai

Funniest part was him rapping his bald head with his knuckles.

still remind me of some Arnold Schwarzenetter's ones 15-20 years ago.

No, those were actually entertaining.

Another coincidence: they both also reduce sperm count.

embarassing!

To stand up and beat your head like a monkey just shows how much BW must be getting....

No worse than many commercials. Brad Pitt did some ads for jeans years ago that were hilarious. Something along the line of "no matter what disaster befalls me, at least my *ss is looking good.

I think it's wicked that so many Western celebrities star in commercials here and in SKorea. It's a major taboo back home, or at least used to be (not sure if it still is). Personally I don't care what it is they're advertising, it's just funny to see them in said roles, be it Willis in this commercial, Pitt doing the Edwin jeans thing, or Tommy Lee and Jean Reno pushing canned coffee.

I agree with kurisupisu & GW - cringeworthy and embarrassing. Daihatsu needs to hire Suntory's Boss Rainbow Mountain can coffee commercials writers.

I can remember a "Friends" episode where Joey gave Chandler a tape of a Japanese commercial he did. The commercial seemed way out there - lipstick for men named ICHIBAN! After seeing some of the REAL Japanese commercials that American actors do, Joey's ICHIBAN! commercial doesn't seem so "out there" anymore. :-)

I find it funny more or less.

For some reason, I watched some of the previous ones shown in Japan. It's in no particular order.

Eddie Murphy - Toyota Celica 2. Spike Lee - Mazda Demio 3. Rowan Atkinson - Nissan Anthony Hopkins - Honda 5. Ray Charles - Honda Civic 6. Jeniffer Lopez - Subaru Legacy Jackie Chan - Mitsubishi-fuso 8. Winona Ryder - Subaru Impreza

I think they made a huge impact in the mainstream media.

Beyonce- Otsuka, crystal geyser 2. Charles Barkley - Acecook 3. Lucy Liu - Santory

And I find out Chinese/Hong-Kong girls tend to appear on big cosmetic, ramen and sake brands in Japan.

Zhang Ziyi - Kao 2. Michelle Li - Shiseido 3. Kelly Chan - Shiseido Karen Mok - Shiseido 5. Gong Li - Housefoods 6. Anita Yuen - Housefoods Joey Wang - Oenon
