TV commercial of the week: Snickers and Erika Sawajiri

This commercial for Snickers takes advantage of Erica Sawajiri's reputation for "being difficult."

A guy turns into Sawajiri when he is hungry and unhappy, but if he eats Snickers, he cheers up and returns to his male form.

Hhahahaahaa That is a funny commercial. She made a big mistake, but now she is even making money by using it! And she is getting media’s attention more than before the interview. She was known as a talented actress. I wonder what made her so upset. She could have acted well if that was a small thing.

Snickers is an international company

Mars is certainly.

Snickers is an international company and they use these ads all over the world featuring popular celebs from their regions. Most of them have the same story line. Just some guys playing a sporting event and the celebs are one of the players. The ad is called "You're not you when you are hungry" and the celeb is irritated because he/she is hungry (that's when the bad behavior comes in play). Once they bite the candy, the celeb changes back to a normal happy person. Betty White and Abe Vagoda (very funny watching both of them get tackled) did the first one back almost 2 years ago in a Superbowl Ad. Later they did others like "The Road Trip" with Aretha Franklin and Liza Minnelli. One of the guys tells Aretha that you are such a Diva when you are hungry.

The Snickers commercial that revived Betty White's career.

My point was that JT had picked this as "commercial of the week", when all it is is a copy of at least a year-old American campaign.

So your complaint is with JT and not Snickers or the Japanese ad agency? Your first post sure doesn't read like that.

Besides this commercial has been around here for months as well.

The with Betty White was the best.

Here, outside of japan, I have only the TV drama "Taiyo no Uta" by which to judge Erika Sawajiri. From that I have always been impressed. I have no clear understanding of her "bad behavior" but it seems like nothing more than a touch of honesty, and haven't we seen how anathema that is to the indigenous culture? Or was it that she didn't come off at PR events with a personality like Aki Hoshino (God love her).

The TV commercial is cute. Are they going to do the same kind of thing for a PMS amelioration? There have been times in my relationships when I wouldn't have minded a bit of "lion to lamb". http://www.chrismorton.info/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/LionLamb.jpg

Snickers in Japan used to come from Australia and they were very decent.

Now they come from Russia and they aint as good no more.

The little mini ones are still from Australia and you can totally taste the difference.

pawatan -- as usual, you missed the point. Whether or not it is the same agency is irrelevant (by the way, since you know so much, which agency is that?). My point was that JT had picked this as "commercial of the week", when all it is is a copy of at least a year-old American campaign.

@BlueWitch

sorry but what do you mean by that? bad behavior?

bad behavior means showing a little bit of personality

I have watched this TV commercial. I like it. However I was wondering why she accepted to appear in this commercial. It is bad impression of her that most of Japanese have. On the other hand it could be her personality and people may not forget about her. I hope she will come back on dramas and movies.

I like Snickers but I hate this broad.

haaaaaaate the hair. all i see is bad hair. the message i get is that if i eat snickers, my hair will explode into a frothy yellow mess.

I think she is cute.

Interesting reactions. I thought people here might appreciate a little self deprecating humour from a girl who has been portrayed as a spoilt and ungrateful brat. Guess not. I think it's pretty funny - I like people who can laugh at themselves. I'll go back to being serious now.....

It did not make me Snicker. And what's with the bizarre hair color? Did they do the CM shoot at reactor #4?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

This ad is actually a little old now, it started a few months back at least.

Erika Sawajiri used to be very attractive. Her appearance in this CM, however, does her no favors.

Erika's Takano Yuri commercial is a lot better than this one. It's one of the choices of related videos that comes up after viewing this one.

@d29kiwa

"A guy turns into Sawajiri when he is hungry and unhappy, " This would be a funny commercial. I think she is really beautiful and many people say she is talented as an actress, but her behavior was not so good and I haven't seen her on TV anymore :( I'm happy she is coming back on TV/commercial soon!

sorry but what do you mean by that? bad behavior?

They make you fat, so she must really not eat them. She looks great with that dyed hair. Very natural looking.

This campaign has been running for well over a year in the U.S. featuring folks like Joe Pesci. All the Japanese agency did is copy it.

Same ad agency and same client. Nobody copied anything.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Sweet lord, she looks awful! Who's idea was it to turn her hair into straw? That's what it looks like, anyway.

I don't care either

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Erika sugoi, but for me, then i eat snikers, always become covered with acne.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

takes advantage of Erica Sawajiris reputation for being difficult.

Was gonna say I'd like to take advantage of her and the blonde Japanese reputation for being easy, but no, she looks like crap.

So eat plenty of Snickers, boys, and keep that disagreeable dishwater blonde bimbette lurking within, under wraps!

Warning: For redheads, double the dosage...

Snickers and Erika Sawajiri

tasty combination :)

Rewarding for poor behavior

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Good on her! Nice to see someone who can have a laugh at themselves. Doesn't hurt that she is smoking hot either.
