TV commercial of the week: Toyota and Doraemon

Toyota's new commercial starts out using characters from the famous animation "Doraemon." Twenty years later, at the age of 30, they are "reborn" in live action scenes.

Nobita Nobi, the weakling, is played by actor Satoshi Tsumabuki and Takeshi "Gian" Goda, the big bully, is played by mixed martial artist Naoya Ogawa.

The story starts with the girl, Shizuka wondering what they are going to be when they grow up. Suneo says that he's going to be a rich man, Gian says that he's going to be one of the dregs of society, and Nobita says that he's going to go driving with Shizuka. Twenty years pass and we see Gian still bullying Nobita.

Jean Reno appears in sequel

In the sequel, Jean Reno appears as Doraemon.

Takeshi Goda (nicknamed Gian), who is played by Naoya Ogawa, and Nobita Nobi, who is played by Satoshi Tsumabuki, appear in the previous commercial.

In the sequel, Shizuka Minamoto is played by actress Asami Mizukawa and Suneo Honekawa is played by one of Johnny's idols, Tomohisa Yamashita.

In the commercial, Nobita is going on a date with Shizuka to a camp site, but they miss their bus and get stranded. Suneo turns up with his car to offer them a ride. Back home, Nobita cries because he doesn't have a car. Then Doraemon appears out of his desk drawer. Nobita asks Doraemon to get him a car but Doraemon refuses because Nobita doesn't have a driving license.

Everyone has to watch youtube the movie of this article. That was really funny. My favorite scene is that Suneo was appeared. Yamasita Tomohisha cannot much Suneo's character but it is funny. Doraemon is really popular in Japan. Why is this cartoon so popular? Because we are really want to cheer Nobita up in front of TV screen. We have a sense of familiarity. He is bullied by Gyaian & he jealous Suneo & he has girlfriend. Our preference tends to reality. We need someone's help as like Doraemon but our reality there are no Doraemon. But we can corporate each other. ONEPIECE is kind of corporation cartoon. Always we love cartoon that is relating our life.

When I turned on the TV, Jean Reno appeared wearing blue costume! At first, I couldn’t understand why he was wearing such costume. Then I realized he was acting Doraemon. I want him appearing another one.

@Foxie

he should just date me

I think you and Nobita could happily share a world together:)

It is very funny but it is also very sad. Why does Nobita need to have car to have a girlfriend? Maybe he should just date me, I'd be happier going for a walk.

Nobita asks Doraemon to get him a car but Doraemon refuses because Nobita doesn’t have a driving license.

It is very funny.

This scene makes me wet myself. I want to watch more and more funny commercials from now on. And buy many cars that are associated with reconstituted cartoon characters.

So now advertisements get advertised, disguised as news stories. Keep up the good work, JT.

Takeshi Gian Goda, the big bully, is played by mixed martial artist Naoya Ogawa. Is this a spelling mistake? Surely the big bully is Ozawa :)

I still can't get used to Doraemon's new voice. I always like Oyama Nobuyo the best.

Foxie, Toyota and other companies always...well most of the time use a car name with the letter L or V in it because no one can say them correctly. It is an inside joke, stated with the American occupation.

Now I guess he is going down hill. I saw it and thought what???

FoxieNov. 21, 2011 - 12:21PM JST

I know Foxie, I know what you mean. It was my poor attempt at humor, or to be sarcastic but I lose, for as you wrote Toyota is the world leader at that. :-D

Editors,

Suneo says that he's going to be rich man,

Suneo probably said he's going to be A rich man;

Munya, I am talking about the commercial and the sarcastic names Toyota gives to its cars.

Sorry for Toyota. A good, strong company was, and now, as you can see - even the PR can not do. And Jean Reno does not like to Ainu

Funny to see Jean RENO, not John Lennon, come out of a DESK dressed up like Doraemon!

To add, Jean reno portrays the foreign otaku. Too funny.

When it comes to sarcastic sense of humour, Toyota is the world leader.

Are you talking about the commercial or their products? Which one is the bigger joke?

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

When it comes to sarcastic sense of humour, Toyota is the world leader. Thanks for all the good laughs, Toyota. The single Japanese guy in his 30's with no skills, the materialistic woman running off with a playboy and the foreigner telling him what to do, hilarious.

Wooow!!!!!!!!!!!! That was something, that did it. huuhhh, OMG.

I don't know how to chill out, I got so hot and excited. I cant restrain myself any more I must run and buy a few Toyotas at once. I hope I can withstand and survive the extreme excitement and the irresistible desire that this commercial put in me. Lucky for me the commercial was short, one more second and my breasts explode in delight. My heart is ticking like you don't know what. Huuuhhh water please!

Please somebody help me, I am an impulse shopper these commercials hell outta tempt me, I wanna buy at least five Toyotas of different models. I need them as half of them will be recalled in a few weeks anyhow.

In the sequel, Jean Reno appears as Doraemon.

I haven't my glasses on and saw that as 'Janet Reno'. Could have done without that image!

John Lennon? Talk about necromancy.

That is Jean Reno(famous from the "Deep Blue", etc).

I’ve seen this TV commercial. It was really interesting and funny. And I was surprised John Lennon played Doraemon. He is speaking Japanese well. I can’t wait next story.

I saw this TV commercial. This is very funny commercial! I can’t stop laughing for a minute. But I think Antachaburu’s Shibata more much than Satoshi Tsumabuki to play Nobita Nobi. And Suneo, play Tomohisa Yamashita, is too cool I think Cream stew’s Arita Teppei is the best!!! What do you think?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I've checked this Commercial. i think it is interesting for Japanese^^ most japanese already know each characters without explanation! and all actors match each characters very well! it's funny!

I would personally go with the new Microsoft CM's. Love the Dog/Golf one.

Jean Reno as Doraemon is just wrong on soo many levels.

The commercial of the year has to be the new 7-11 commercial with AKB48 members in their Christmassy suits!
