TV personality and presenter Kuniko Asagi, 48, was recently the subject of a tweet by news presenter Miyoko Omomo, 45, accusing her of having slept with her ex-husband.
Asagi appeared, swollen-eyed, as a commentator on a daytime TBS show on Wednesday, during which she told the panel, "I'm shocked. I thought we could settle this like adults. There are parts of the story that are not true."
After the broadcast, Asagi immediately held a press conference and confessed to having had a relationship with Omomo's ex-husband Toru Yamaji, 49, before they were divorced. Yamaji is a producer for news agency APF.
When asked about the scale of the media interest that has arisen as a result of the tweet, Asagi replied, "I imagine it took Omomo by surprise too."
According to Omomo's agency, she and Yamaji divorced in June 2006 some three months after Asagi and her composer husband split. Although Asagi disputes some of the details and the timeline of events as reported by the press, she said, "It is true that we dated."

Talk about sex and the city. Sex and the tv presenters here in tokyo

Why don't they just say "it's a personal matter, it's none of your business" in response to any questions?

For going on 50, Kuniko looks great, albeit not exactly in this picture. Too bad she got caught up in a sukanduru. Just goes to show even we middle-agers like a romp in the sack.

As someone who has been treated like the ex-wife, I find this interesting.
In Japan the ex wife can sue the mistress for breaking up the marriage, and while i dont think Omomo should do this, its nice to see Asagi getting her just deserts. Any woman who sleeps with (who she knows to be) a married man is scum.
chuckers
What about a man that sleeps with a woman he knows to be married?
One of the morning talk shows yesterday was going in to the timeline of it and it was likely that Asagi wasn't fully divorced from her husband when she took up with this new guy.
But then, this was over 4 years ago. Who really cares?

Japanese men seem to love the whole "married woman" fantasy. It's pathetic and childish.

I guess if they only 'slept' together, i.e. fell asleep, it would not be a problem; but they stay awake and do things....

I'm surprised by the level of media interest too...

I met a guy at a bar the other day with his wife. Someone asked him why they weren't wearing rings. He said "We're free." I asked him if that meant he had an "open marriage." He said "Yes, open." I explained what it meant and he said "Oh, no, not open."
I asked him what the Japanese was for "open marriage." He said "We don't have the concept in Japan." I thought to myself: I suppose you just call it kekkon.

New headline: fairly boring story about mildly famous middle aged people commiting adultery rocks Japan...

Fine by me. I'm ok with that double standard.
