Tom Cruise prefers to be remembered as “One of the Last, International, ‘Big Box-Office’ Stars” of the 20th AND, 21st Centuries before he would ever go straight to “streaming”. It’s “All the Right Moves” of ‘smart marketing’ IF theatres can return to ‘reasonable’ capacities in the summer or fall of 2021.

PS. Contrary to what ‘Big Tech’ & the governments want, we’ve actually grown tired of the ‘convenience’ and Over-saturation of ‘streaming’. Plus, we miss the real, hot & FRESH, heart-stopping, ‘cholesterol-coma’ inducing, popped-corn (NOT that weeks old, overpriced J-theatre flavored styrofoam).

I hope Cruise slaps a giant Taiwan flag back on his jacket considering all the hijinks the PRC has been pulling of late.

More Hollywood sequel garbage??..

No thanks

Man they really ran out of ideas to the point of being beyond ridiculous. First of all, nobody has a military career that lasts 31 years, let alone flies fighter jets. It would've made been much more realistic (and sensible) to have a sequel in 1988 or 1989 or so but he did 'Cocktail' and other stuff. Now after all these years with his speaking out for Scientology, that stupid couch stunt on TV, tarnishing his image and crapping his pants in public and fathering Katie Holme's kid, I guess this junk is what you fall on. Tom wants to fall back on the marquee value from 1986 but everything has changed since then. Most of us have moved on. Sequelitis like is a terminal creative disease.

Does anybody remember 'Return to Oz' from 1985? The sequel to 'Gone With The Wind'? Does anybody want to, or even gives a damn?

Agreed. There a very few, new & originals ideas produced by Hollywood now. It’s easier to ‘hand the torch to a younger generation’ in ‘franchise films’, or, ‘trash the past’, hoping it will take of with younger audiences.

If there was to be a 'Top Gun 2' with a new character, like say the original pilot's son - in a John McCain sort of way (he came from a long line military family just likeJoe Biden does), then that would be fine. And realistic. But given how this sequel is being done and promoted and with all the time and changes that have happened since then, it makes no sense. It's pointless now. After all, would you even care to see a 'Yellow Submarine 2' with only two Beatles still living? Some things should just be left alone, as is.

Nah, the leading role should go to a woman. Hey, yeah! Let's get with the times!

Bland and boring first time round

At the risk of being battered to death, I sort of agree. Poor story, rubbish dialogue and a soundtrack to make you want to gouge your own ears out. The women weren't hot enough either.

The action in the sequel looks quite good though. Tom got to play with some very nice toys
