U.S. calls rock singer Roger Waters 'anti-Semitic' after Nazi costume furor

At the same Berlin concert, Waters appeared to draw parallels between the deaths of several people by flashing their names on a large screen, including those of Anne Frank, the Jewish teenager who died in a Nazi concentration camp, and Shireen Abu Akleh, the Palestinian-American journalist shot dead last year while covering an Israeli raid.

Seems like a cromulent analogy about mechanized systems of oppression and death to young people and right up Water's alley.

Interesting timing. The US State Department has clambered aboard the herd-smearing bandwagon of the lifelong anti-war, anti-Nazi musician Roger Waters just as the New York Times has admitted that the US is supporting neo-Nazis in Ukraine.

Waters is receiving exactly the same treatment as did the politician Jeremy Corbyn, another lifelong anti-racist who was smeared as an anti-Semite in order to destroy Labour's chances to win the 2019 UK general election.

It seems being anti-war, anti-totalitarian and critical of the world's last remaining apartheid country is unacceptable to the US and its vassal states. This latest attack on Waters is straight up McCarthyism and an extremely disturbing portent for the future. The "west" is hurtling face first into a brick wall of fascism.

I am and always will be a Pink Floyd fan. They are the Kings of Psychedelic Rock. And in late 1979 the 'Wall' came out and it is a masterpiece, one of the greatest of all time. The movie that came out a few years later also is wonderful. I remember taking GFs to it (one of them couldn't believe Toni Tenille is listed in the credits as 'bkg vocals'! I was amused/stunned to notice that too. Seeing Bruce Johnson of the Beach Boys listed as such didn't surprise me, however.). And in the Navy at the midnight cult classic showings at a local cinema in Orlando I saw it with some fellow squid cohorts. Sometimes we were trashed, sometimes not.

And as I got older the well-made seamless garment of the stresses of musicians' careers, alienation, bad family upbringings, marital infidelity, war, dictatorship, totalitarianism, etc. became even more clear to me. The maturity of this work of art grew even more apparent. And it still does. I'm now 57 and it's a huge cultural monument not just of the 80s, not just of my Generation X, not even just of rock'n'roll itself but of all time. Similar to the impact of Prince in a way.

In 1985 Roger Waters quit Pink Floyd and went solo. I saw Pink Floyd itself at my university in 1994. 16 years later as an alumnus I saw Rog's complete 'Wall' tour also at my alma mater. Like PF, it was hard to get tix, I had to go solo but I didn't mind. It was just the 'Wall' 'rock opera', nothing more or less. I experienced (mentally) my entire life that night; good, bad, ugly.

And the props! However, even in 2010 during the playing of 'Where Should We Go From Here?', a commentary of the shallowness of materialism there were the expected icons projected on the fake wall: $, UK pound sign, Shell Oil logo, Cadillac logo, et al and a JEWISH STAR OF DAVID. That drew a few gasps from the audience but it was brief, all the imagers quickly vanished.

Rolling Stone magazine printed an article about that back then. The tour was a huge success regardless and some stops even featured Roger's fellow ex-Pinkies guesting at the shows. Nice. Rog at the time sheepishly claimed that the Jewish star was a 'slip up' and supposed removed it from his shows. That was in 2010-2011.

Sad to say he has gone more extreme with it. While I agree that Israel (the political state) has been treating the Gazan and West Bank Palestinians badly, it is a political issue, not a religious one. Israel is not Jidaism. And Israel itself is NOT a fascist or an apartheid state as RW has been saying for so many years. He has sassed off the mouth to rockers who have toured there like Bon Jovi and Paul McCartney. Even worse he has ranted some really 'looney toon' theories about Israel controlling everything in the world from communications to even the evil Donald Trump. He hysterically ranted in a video interview with an Arab language media outlet about American cops flying over to Israel to learn techniques about killing Black Americans - like the ugly 'George Floyd' arrest/murder. He shriekingly claims that Israeli soldiers and police do that abusive crap all the time and that they are proud of it. And yes, Virginia he has referred to the 'cabal', the 'cartel' and that hideously ugly 'Z-word' ('Zionism').

And yet while ranting about that he says nothing as much about the real human rights abuses openly practiced by say Russia. He keeps on rapping with this 'Israel this and Israel that' crapola. And ex-Pinkie Dave Gilmour and his wife have said that RW is 'antisemitic to the rotten core;. Roger himself has lipped off about Dave and the deceased Rick as being subpar musicians 'with nothing to say, so blah'.

'So blah', Roger? PF was a sum off all its parts, not just one person's vision. The lyrical themes he explored and wrote about in all those PF albums are pure genius. That's one aspect that puts the Floyd over the others in uts genre. But his solo work does not have the PF musicality that makes the PF discography so grand.

Recently RW has put out an EP of at home reworking of PF + solo songs he recorded during lockdown but out of principal I will not buy it. I don't want to fill the pockets of some stark raving antisemite. I will never go to his shows ever again and I won't buy any more of his CDs. Just like Kayne West/Ye, a stand must be made. Roger's true colors are visible now and I want nothing to do with his Jew-bashing attitude. Enough is enough.

I have no problem whatsoever with the state of Israel, it has every right to exist but it is nothing but a political entity with an old Biblical days name. I've attended a Pink Floyd concert in Canada many year's ago. I must say it was one of the most memorable concerts and the special effects we're out of this world in a spectacular dazzling array of mesmerizing perplexities .

Don't even go there, you make it seem as if the Palestinians are law-abiding peaceful people, sure there are some that want real peace, but the majority of them want the Jewish people to leave their land, not going to happen, if the Palestinians want real and lasting peace then they have to recognize the Jewish nation as it exists.

Jeremy Corbyn was suspended by his own political party because of anti-semitism. You claim he is an anti-racist so cannot be anti-semitic. Don't forget that Diane Abbott - his close colleague and ex-lover - was subsequently suspended for publishing a letter in a leading newspaper arguing that Jews could not be the subject of racism. Under this abhorrent perspective it is possible to claim to be anti-racist whilst actively being anti-semitic.
