Mother Teresa was an activist for social causes but she got her fame by her actions and not by TV shows. And when I saw her funeral live via satellite, the attendees were of various religions - monotheistic and non.

Mother Teresa is one of those examples where due to mystification, unreflective media coverage and support from followers a symbol rather than an actual human being was created. Yes, she helped a lot of people, but if you actually read about her life and philosophy, you might come to the conclusions that she was a heartless Christian radical. She would let people suffer intentionally, because she would consider sickness and suffering as a pathway to get closer to god. Not to mention the hygienic situation in her hospitals and the question where all those millions of dollars went.

All donations to charities have to be transparent. Too many are skimming from the top, we need to know who and how much. A clear spreadsheet where the money is going. Make charities accountable.

(I've met so many who have become rich from working for a charity)

She just did it and let others do the laudations, fame and glory for her. TV shows can't capture that.

Balls for trying. A survivor style game where contestants have to discus tackling child poverty or urban homelessness in relation to the likability of a fellow contestant sounds as realistic as it gets. I would have wanted to see the original format.

Yep, that's the primary mechanism of these  soul-harvesters..

Un-reality shows are lazy tv and all too often cringeworthy.

Mother Teresa had an unfortunate penchant for oppressive dictators.

'Shark Tank' is one of the dumbest reality TV shows of all time. Unbelievably banal. I was at a McDonalds a few years ago and there was a big screen showing that junk. Some Somali immigrants were at a booth nearby it. Not to degrade them or anything, I asked them what they thought of the show. They told me that it's trash, that it's stupid. If these people who are from another place where English isn't spoken and where such programs may not even exist (Somalia has been in a state of anarchy for 30 years), then what does that say about the dumbed-down American audience who watches that trash?

Totally agree, some do charity for public adulation, others do it to please their version of God.

Few do it for selflessness reasons!!

I like some of the creative ones like Top Chef or Blown Away. Even the Lego one is kind of cool.
