There are plenty of well-known celebrities in America who have found themselves starring in a commercial or two in Japan. The latest famous person to hawk Japanese products is Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr, who stars in a commercial for popular P&G laundry detergent, Bold. Aside from being absolutely gorgeous in the commercial, Miranda actually speaks a bit of Japanese, telling consumers about the new pink detergent.

Miranda Kerr replaces Cameron Yamada, the previous Bold spokesperson. Just in case viewers are confused by the switch, Miranda is introduced as “New Yamada-san” at the beginning of her Bold commercial.

As she steps out of her car, a mountain of Bold detergent is seen cascading into the driver’s seat. A surprised Miranda looks back and smiles.

From there, New Yamada-san’s nosey neighbors come over to check out what’s going on. The following dialogue commences:

Neighbor A: What have you been up to? Miranda: I went shopping. Neighbor B: You bought too much! Miranda: shrug and a wink Neighbor A: Ah, Bold! Miranda: It’s so cute and pink! Neighbor A: Pink?! Anyway you look at it, it’s blue! Miranda: The liquid is pink! Neighbor A & B: It’s pink! Miranda: It’s pink!

Uh, what? The conversation seems a little better once you watch the commercial…but not much better.

According to Fashion Headline, the video shoot took place in Los Angeles, but the finished product will never be seen on any TV in the U.S.

She looks great but sounds like an anime character.

Important question: why are there no Victoria Secret stores in Japan?

Is this really news? There are so many many many foreigners in CM's lately. From non-famous to superstars. Orlando Bloom for Uniqlo, Tommy Lee Jones for Boss, Richard Gere for Orangina. wont be long before all CM's have only foreigners in it.

She has a face like a boxer from the '40s.

Always suspected you couldn't tell the difference between a boxer and a pretty girl. One too many pucks to the head, I presume.

The conversation seems a little better once you watch the commercial…but not much better.

I don't think we need to test the premise that turning the goo pink makes doing the laundry more "fun." But I love the fact that some people are thinking that way and getting paid for it.

At least she's better than the previous "TOUCH DE PON!!" girl and her intentionally terrible Japanese. Those ads were painful.

Why do all laundry detergents have American names in Japan.

Isn't Cameron Yamada the name of the character in the Bold commercial? Miranda will be the 3rd "Cameron Yamada".

But MK is an Aussie and not an American.....

Because they're American detergents. Ever hear of Proctor & Gamble?

Geledestrasse, were you expecting to find politics in the entertainment section?

It won't get your clothes cleaner or your whites whiter, but it's pink and fun. And there are pretty girls. So we have that going for us, which is nice.

Now all they have to do now is get Cuddles to appear in a Japanese detergent commercial.

I'm glad someone mentioned that she is indeed Australian. Not every blue-eyed blonde-haired foreigner is American.

...she is a brunette

Pink bits are nice.
