Rick Grimes isn't departed just written out, he is still alive but I'm guessing something in his contract said he couldn't die, but nothing against not being in an episode

As a result, many scenes feature just one or two characters at a time -- an experience for the actors that Lazaro, a playwright herself, described as "theatrical."

"The COVID episodes have given us the chance to really sit down with these characters and monologues," she said, calling the experience "a treat for me."

Perhaps they didn't have a choice this time, but these "two characters at a time" episodes are how TWD went downhill to begin with. They need the original cast and Frank Darabont in charge to pull anything like that off. Now you have maybe 3 watchable episodes a season, and the rest are just a complete snore-fest.

Felt the show really upped the game in season 9 and 10. It had been coasting for a bit. Although, it's probably time to call it a day after the next season.

I like the sound of bubble episodes. Eastenders (yes, yes... I know) did this, on occasion, very effectively over the years and such episodes gave depth to long standing characters and were usually acclaimed.

I hear season 6 of FTWD is back on form, too. Which is a relief as that was all over the shop after the excellent 3rd season.

"The Walking Dead: World Beyond." is the absolute worst! That show for the sake of humanity needs to be canceled. The acting, the script, the actors are just so, so very bad. At this point, I would be surprised if it could make it through a season 2.
