Dead Skunk was such an annoying song, I didn’t listen to Loudon again for years. Then I heard The Swimming Song and I changed my mind. That song still sounds today like it could have been written by any of the super-hip alt/Americana acts of the past decade or so. Motel Blues, the brilliant In C… in some ways LW3 reminds me of the late, great Warren Zevon, both resolute individualists, both with a dry, deadpan humour and an almost throwaway approach to delivering a lyric that almost blinds you as to how smart those lyrics really are. Kudos to Loudon Wainwright III, long may he continue to record and perform.
