This will be interesting to follow. Henley (and Frey when he was alive) has a reputation for using the legal system for any threats real or perceived to his stream of income. Just ask Don Felder...

What a picture! Three dudes in handcuffs. All because of lyrics. A little harsh.

I thought I was mis-seeing with those dudes in handcuffs over copyright and ownership. Master criminals maybe.

Yeah what is with the handcuffs? Even terrorists aren't kept in cuffs in the courtroom.

There is an interesting story behind the hotel named "Hotel California," in Todos Santos, in Baja California Sur.
The Eagles did stay there, apparently, but they deny that the song is named after the hotel where they stayed, and they went to court so that the hotel could not claim a relationship to the song or the Eagles.
At any rate, the town is able to exist due to a rare fresh water spring in the area. Seeing so much vegetation in the middle of a harsh desert is itself refreshing. The hotel serves good food and drinks, and the shade of the trees is idyllic. There is an artists colony at the very pleasant town, which is perhaps what attracted The Eagles.
I can't swear to the veracity of that story, but it is what the tour guide told us.
