Oh look! Another samurai movie/series with Hiroyuki Sanada!

Oh look! Hiroyuki starring in another samurai movie/series!

Hiroyuki Sanada is aiming to be the next Toshiro Mifune. And he's very likely to suceed. He's come a long ways from the JAC days but his forte is still action/martial arts. Sonny Chiba would be proud.

Sanada was good in The Last Samurai and was mildly entertaining in Lost and was pretty good in that Johnny Depp movie Minamoto… so yeah if Hollywood wants a samurai, angry salaryman/ yakuza type he’s the guy! Too bad Japan doesn’t have a larger pool of thespians to bank on though.

I loved the original Shogun book and series, it was one of the things that made me come to Japan. In fact all of Clavell's books set in HK and Japan are still brilliant reads.

And the new series has good reviews so I'm looking forward to it immensely.

We watched "One Life" with Anthony Hopkins.

"London broker Nicholas "Nicky" Winton helps rescue hundreds of predominantly Jewish children from Czechoslovakia in a race against time before the Nazi occupation closes the borders. Fifty years later, he's still haunted by the fate of those he wasn't able to bring to safety."

Very moving.

If you like the lowest of low-brow entertainment aimed at 14 year old privileged boys who go to private school, watch an Adam Sandler movie.

Because he's only ever done one genre/style of movie, right?

...right?
