People wanted a public funeral at a nearby sports arena, but the family wanted a small, private gathering instead. As compromise, they allowed the public to watch the private funeral on TV.

Flags at half-mast for Whitney Houston was a bit over the top in my opinion. Chris Christie is taking a lot of flak over that from Veterans group

It seems like many many years ago, but what happened to Michael Jackson's funeral? Was his broadcast too? I can't remember.

I said it with MJ too, and I'll say it here - she was gone a long long time ago. I'd lost complete interest in here years ago and I'll remember her as one of the best singers of the 80's. Grew up listening to her classic songs and it was unfair that she got a lot of flak for singing songs that weren't 'black' enough. In fact I really loved a lot of the top singers when they first came out, but slowly lost interest as they went on drugs, had nervous breakdowns, changed their singing styles or became right old divas. At least she ended her career with a great song - it was sad to hear voice sound so different and yet the vulnerability and fragility in her voice made it that more interesting. Had she been any other person, she would have been called a fine singer, but when you compare it to what she was before, it really is sad. Her voice had become no better than, say, Mary J Blige.

tmarie agree with you about having this all broadcast on TV is a bit over the top. But her music back in the 80's and 90's were chart toppers. She was no ordinary singer. She was a one of a kind with exceptional musical talent. Her drug problems is her own personal business just like Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and many other greats who have gone down that route. Drugs is an addiction and though it is no excuse, it's just like being a smoker, alcoholic or addicted to your local pachinco parlour. Many people are not strong enough to break the addiction. We should simply appreciate her for the wonderful music she gave to us. Peace!

This is too much. The news broadcast the arrival of her casket at the airport the other day! Really? There doesn't seem to be any perspective anymore.

Few days ago She was just known as a drugs addicted, broken star and etc. She dyes and people comes with the same old things: "I always loved her. She was a amazing person " and bla bla blaaaa bla. Same was for the stoner Winehouse.

I guess that private funeral is not going to be that private.

Looks like it will be a live webcast.... She was a great singer and I really like her songs but a live Network broadcast would be definitely stretching it. A live webcast is understandable.
