I think Tom Hardy would be an outstanding Bond.

Just in case he doesn't make the cut, though, I've submitted my application.

The luvvies won't be satisfied until Bond is a transgender, Liberal, cross-dressing vegan who hates guns.

As another black man I also think he should stay white. Rather than it being progressive I find it kinda lazy and honestly a little patronising to just turn him into a black guy instead of taking the time to build an interesting and equally cool character from scratch. Would love to see Idris Elba in a role like that, his Luther TV series proves he's more than capable. It's a fantastic show

MI5? You mean MI6.

“Stop getting Bond wrong!!!”

The next JB? The clue's in the photo. Mr Bean?

You mean Johnny English.

There is only ONE James Bond, and his name is "Bond,... James Bond", and that is Sean Connery.

I agree with Bass4funk. It does not happen often but why alter a long standing character rather than create new ones. Perhaps Snow white should be played by a man of color too?

Have all the worlds writers run out of new stories to tell? Create new Characters to fill any void or need for parts for those other than white. Just substituting White men out of established stories is just as insulting as having white actors play Asian parts etc.

Produce more stories, movies, tv series by Black writers, Asian writers, female writers.

James Bond is a white male part because that was the original authors vision and the story he wrote. Please dont alter it for some sense of political correctness.

Woman as James bond. I hope never.

But another agent, why not. Call it Jamie Bird or anything else.

Bond is from an original script and shall not be changed.

Idris Elba could be a good choice but any good choice is fine to me if English civilized manners are there.

Idris Elba would be an excellent choice.

Yes, but why change the race of the person of the character? Why not just invent a brand new character to go along with Bond or have a stand-alone movie. Who's not to that a Black person could want to try and play the role of Lincoln? This is a very slippery slope we are on and if we start changing White characters to Black (or any other race for that matter) then why not the other way around?

It will also drive a certain type of person red with anger.

Anger, no, but bewilderment, it really does.

MI5? You mean MI6.

Probably.

James Bond is a white male part because that was the original authors vision and the story he wrote.

So? The original author's vision was part of a world that doesn't exist anymore. We've moved on. Having a black spy from England probably didn't make sense then. Makes sense now.

Personally, I'd like to see a disabled Black lesbian. You'd still get Bond girls and not Bond boys.

I laughed when I saw Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) among those photos. He will always be Blackadder to me.

I'm not sure they should chose an A-list actor like Tom Hardy or Henry Cavill. Those actors are doing well with the many different roles they play. Being tied up playing James Bond would not let them get on with other great films we may miss out on.

I'd prefer a somewhat unknown or upcoming actor for the role.

I thought we all agreed that "white-washing" was bad, and that characters should be the same as they were originally written? Why not make a Black character, or a female character separate from James Bond?

There is no reason they could not create a 008 for a black actor and a 009 for a female.

Set them up for a few movies and then have a combined move with all three 00's. If Marvel can set up a super movie with more than one hero, why not MI5?

As a white guy, I both have to respect what you say, but do disagree on the subject of race. However, the character is a man - everything about him is masculine and that's the whole point. A female spin-off might be fun (take a leaf out of the Star Wars book), but I don't see him as being fundamentally white.

The original James Bond (half Scottish, half Swiss, IIRC) would have been born in Britain in about 1910. At the time there was almost no one of a different race in the country. However, we are not on the look out for a 110 year old to play the role.

A Bond of today would have been born in the early 1980s and could have been black. The biggest problem with Eldra for me is his age - he is nearly 50 and that's too late to be starting a Bond career. Roger Moore nearly killed the franchise by being so old when he finally quit.

A woman would be disastrous in the box office, this has been tried over and over again, and failed.

Write a script and new character if they want a woman.

I could see a person of colour but I can also see where in the world of Bond that could be a problem or at least making certain already unbelievable plot lines even more unbelievable.

Already the idea a white man walking around in an Asian country and not sticking out with a sign saying " hey look I am a spy" is pushing the envelope of believable.

But at least a white guy passing himself off a a Russian, or other Easter European can be believed.

A man or woman of colour with stick out even more in most places and one would have to forget eastern Europe especially Russia from any plot.

If a woman well forget Asian, the middle East, most of South America and Africa because in much of those regions a woman wouldn't get 2 metres without have problems as simple as driving a car or going out at night.

Henry Cavill

why change the race of the person of the character?

Why not? He's a good actor and British, super masculine. Seems like a good Bond to me.

To Whom are you responding @Peter14 9:50pm:

The whole concept is antiquated. Kind of post ww2 white dude saves world ....need to modernize this. I vote for Harry potter, Jackie Chan, Chris rock or Billie Jean king

The luvvies won't be satisfied until Bond is a transgender, Liberal, cross-dressing vegan who hates guns.

And

As expected, such discussions bring out the gammon-faced reactionaries.
