10 years?! That's a joke.

Will Smith should've been banned from attending permanently.

That’s Hollywood. Looking forward to a strong comeback for both men:

One with a bruised face.

The other with a bruised ego.

Wishing the best for both of them.

As Will checks into supposedly checks into rehab, hopefully the counselor tells him to get out of his toxic marriage.

I think it is good that the academy decided not to take the award, this gives Will Smith a chance to show actual remorse by returning it, or not.

Just for a moment imagine what would have happened if the actor who slapped Rock like that was white not black . He would not have got of so lightly and virtually unscathed like Smith of that you can be sure. He would not have been given the Oscar, his career would be in tatters and the condemnation would have been universal.

“During our telecast, we did not adequately address the situation in the room. For this, we are sorry,” the academy said.

Translation: As a liberally biased organization we needed to assess the public reaction before deciding how to address the issue.

It’s funny how majority of Japanese netizens on Yahoo are on Will Smith side, saying that the man was just simply protecting his wife and verbal abuse is violence too. How hypocritical of them because Hana Kimura committed suicide because of online bullying, and princess Mako struggled with verbal criticism as well. Seems like they don’t understand how celebs get roasted all the time especially at the Oscar, and Will and Jada has a very toxic marriage.

Not charged with assault? Seems like there is plenty of evidence for a conviction. Above the law?

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

The punishment is WEAK!

OK, Will now get to a divorce lawyer, cut your toxic wife out!.......and start healing.

Violence is never good.

10 yrs or lifetime ban, doesn't matter. The Oscar's organization is on the line. Very few people actually watch that anyway. The last 10 yrs, their winners haven't really been all that great, IMHO.

I can't believe that Dune won for anything.

He’s banned for 10 years, but he still gets to keep his Oscar. Yup, typical Hollywood talking out of both sides of their mouths.

Well, we do have the example of Adrain Brody grabbing Halle Berry and kissing her without consent at the Oscars a few years ago and getting no punishment at all. Not sure but how does that square with the white victimhood narrative you are trying to spin out of this?

I like Will Smith however do not like what he did ~ however he did earn that Oscar so should not be taken back. Just make sure he never goes to any kind of party, award show, talk show, etc... for ten plus years or so. I for one do really like Will Smith however will not see any new movies of his anymore. Sad to say, but what he did, I do not respect him as I once did.

Have you not read were Rock declined to press charges?

He can still be charged without Rock’s testimony.

After all, there is clear evidence and plenty of witnesses.

The Oscar may announce as an award for he actor only but it is also due to the quality of the screen writing, the movie directors and other actors and actresses interacting with the award winner. It may be "his" award but it is also reliant on everyone involved around him also.

Just make sure he never goes to any kind of party, award show, talk show, etc... for ten plus years or so. I for one do really like Will Smith however will not see any new movies of his anymore.

Any future projects will depend on what it is as to if I watch it. I have no interest in the Williams story so wont watch it. If he does something in a genre I like then I will watch it. Bad boys 4 I would watch.

Sad to say, but what he did, I do not respect him as I once did.

My opinion of him has not altered. His acting is great, and like many famous people his personal life and behavior leaves much to be desired. Apart from his obvious wealth.

I totally accept Will Smith reaction.

No one should lack respect, and a slap is not intent to hurt but to show limit has been crossed. A punch would have showed he can't control. But a slap...

If you do that to my wife, who has also a specific condition, don't expect to go unscathed just because it is fun in front of all to disrespect people.

I also find that M. Rock is a man who understood the situation by not pressing charges for a simple slap.

I am 100% sure M. Smith's wife is rewarding him each night for his behaviour. And he can't say it, yet, but he would do it again if going back in past.

Oscar ceremony does not allow to do in front of people what you would not do in the street.

Case closed.

It's August Alsina getting the nightly rewards.

 M. Smith's wife is rewarding him each night for his behaviour

well she’s rewarding someone, not necessarily M. Smith

JP,

You need to google his wife is is downright NASTY!! A vile person, the guy August referred to above, she got with him when he was having MENTAL issues, she is a predator, Will needs to get her OUT of his life so he can heal, it is dangerous for him to remain with her

So if your wife was to disrespect me in front of my mates in the pub you'd be fine with me giving her a slap? You'd 'totally accept' it presumably? Maybe even buy me a pint.

I'd only give her a 'simple slap', so like Chris Rock I'm sure you would understand the situation.

I am not paparazzi and M. Smith like M. Roch are adult enough to judge by themselves how to lead their lives.

@ClippetyClop (I assume you are a man...)

Educated men don't touch women. Haven't you ever noticed a difference in size and strength.

Still, a slap could be understandable if a "soufflet" (French). Rude persons need to be taught and showed that you can't disrespect people too far without consequences.

Problem is people try to avenge directly by hurting physically instead of showing educated response. M. Smith controlled enough because he could have punched in the face and made a few teeth out of M. Roch, if he was uneducated.

Mrs Smith will always be his children's mother by the way.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Well Mr Smith, how does it feel to be "woke to broke"?

"10 years?! That's a joke. Will Smith should've been banned from attending permanently."

YES. My feelings exactly! What about jail time and a hefty fine which any of us would get for for assault.

@Nonbirisama "Not charged with assault? Seems like there is plenty of evidence for a conviction. Above the law?"

I couldn't agree with you more!

Will smith's marriage is open to anything. Except jokes.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Educated men don't touch women.

Equal rights equal fights!

Haven't you ever noticed a difference in size and strength.

Will Smith is about half a foot taller than Chris Rock.

Mrs Smith will always be his children's mother by the way

She will always be the mother but unless Will has had DNA tests done, .....well he may not be the father......

Demi Moore looked hardcore sexy with her shaved head in G. I. Jane. One of my favorite movies. I've seen Jada with her shaved and I thought it looked good. Jada is a tough woman. I could actually see her in a movie called G.I. Jane 2.
