Will the Oscars be a 'who cares' moment as ratings dive?

Who cares?

all these awards have gone for diversity over quality, thus reducing their value & importance.

so nobody cares anymore

Yeah, who cares?

Not at all. It's increased quality and there are so many decent performances to chose from. I'm sure someone could invent a straight white awards ceremony if they really wanted it that bad...

so nobody cares anymore

Myself and millions of other fans of film-making do. Not exactly "nobody".

While there are still a lot of great productions, Hollywood has become terminally infected with open disdain for whites, religious people, conservatives, and many others. So of course those people have begun to tune out.

Then of course there's the problem of great content being replaced by gratuitous violence, materialism, shallowness, and all manner of poor quality.

It's unfortunate because Hollywood used produce many classics.

That must be why Kelsey Grammer, Clint Eastwood, John Malkovich, Kurt Russell, Robert Downey Jr and plenty of other straight, white (and religious) conservatives are unheard of in most households.

Seriously. It's fascinating to see the panic from the victimised white people, when us minorities get a bit of recognition and don't stay in our designated places.

And the Oscar for least convincing parody of conservative goes to?

Clearly what some conservatives need back, is the good old days, where the injuns would be shot up without any remorse. Oh, and blacking up. And actual black people playing servants, slaves and cannon fodder.

It's unfortunate because Hollywood used produce many classics.

And still does.

Conservatives can't handle change. Cinema has been changing and evolving for a hundred years, even if there are only a handful of stories to be told and ways of telling them. So let's hear it for inventiveness, for groundbreaking ways of presenting the tale, and for all the auteurs out there.

I'd give Adam Sandler (another Republican) an award for his turn in Uncut Gems. Reminiscent of Scorsese films, it's a belter. And his performance is one of his best, yet.

Nailed it!

The films released this year are just dull, I've watched five of the nominations for best picture and I'm struggling to bring myself to watch the rest.

NomadLand is by far and a way the best but it's no way near a great movie.

If manbiki kazoku had been released this year, it would win.

TV is so boring now, who cares but the people who will attend to get an Oscar.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

They and most every other award show have been a "who cares" for some time now.

It doesn't matter who is nominated, who wins, some group will complain that they are boycotting because they are not represent in the awards.

Here is how movies and TV work today.

Take a fun show or movie from the past recast with a different gender, ethnicity, orientation, etc...remove all fun, possible controversial anything, possibly add in a conspiracy or 2 and claim it is the best version ever.

The Oscars don't mean squat anymore. All the awards get scooped by some artsy-fartsy film that nobody has seen or even cares to, or some thing disgusting and/or derivative. How did a film about a deaf-mute janitor who has a romantic/sexual lovey-dovey with a pseudo-fishman in a tank get all the awards one year I'll never know. And I still can't see how the boring 'Titantic' or the pile of trash called 'Avatar' even won anything.

rubbish! Trash! Garbage! Doo-doo!!!!

The Oscars won't be on TV for very much longer, the Hollywood tries to stick its nose into Washington and social politics, expect to see their numbers plummet even more. No one cares what they think or if their little feelings are hurt. No one cares about some of the richest people holding award shows to shower each other with comments about how good their films are. YouTube these days has way better content than the average Hollywood movie these days.

Miserable conservatives said that, when Brando won half a century ago.

It's glorious to see the right focusing on what really matters: Hollywood, Dr Seuss, Disney, plastic potatoes...

Anyway, viewing figures are a whole different ball game these days with streaming and so many different media platforms. Of course they're not going to resemble what they used to.

Meanwhile, diminishing fogeys will continue to wail that cinema ain't what it used to be. As did their fathers and their fathers before them.

Miserable conservatives

No, we find our lives are for the better with less TV and Hollywood to poison the air.

The world was totally different and the US a much happier place where things were normal

Yes, if these companies and corporations bow down to the woke crowd, how long do you think it will be before they go after ordinary people with the flimsiest of evidence.

Life imitates art and a lot of them have done that. Thankfully more and more people are canceling noise which is Hollywood, at the same time Youtube is growing, they seem to have better content, why would people not make the shift?
