With Golden Week fast approaching, now is the time to begin planning activities that will keep you occupied during the week-long holiday.

Whilst many of us crave a break from the hustle and bustle of work life, the reality is that when Golden Week actually arrives we sometimes feel overwhelmed at the seemingly infinite time off we’ve been given. Pre-covid we might have considered booking a flight to whatever destination in Japan we want to tick off next, but since the start of the pandemic travel has been somewhat frowned upon and an emphasis has been put on valuing outdoor activities that can be enjoyed near home.

If you’re based in the Kanto area and are looking for a filler to provide some easy entertainment this Golden Week, perhaps you might like to consider spending some time at Yokohama Seaside Cinema 2022.

Yokohama’s Seaside Cinema is the largest outdoor theatre event in Japan, and offers a number of films at four separate outdoor venues around Yokohama Bay from May 1-5.

The event itself is a nod of appreciation to the city’s former glory as one of Japan’s leading “Cinema Cities”.

We’ve included an introduction to each venue and its screenings below.

This particular venue is recommended for friends, couples or the whole family.

A selection of 5 “Special Feature” Evangelion films will be screened at the venue during the event, so this is not to be missed by any fans of the mecha anime production.

If you like the idea of watching a movie with the white noise of waves crashing along the shore in the background, then this is the venue for you. Theatre Marine & Walk is conveniently located near a selection of food stalls and shops, which means you can enjoy dinner and a show during any one of the screenings.

The venue will be screening 5 not-to-be-missed masterpieces from both Japan and overseas.

What's more, this venue is completely free-of-charge, though reservation is recommended to assist in keeping crowds to a minimum. Also, top tip – the venue doesn’t have seating, so it is advised that visitors bring their own cushions and rugs to sit on when watching a movie.

Glad the article suggested something interesting to do these holidays.

Just a shame that the tickets are sold out.
