Are evening newscasts headed for shift?

the only j-news worth watching is world business satellite. they just present biz news and then show some cool gadgets at the end. no "oishii" from those guys.

biggest problem is they don't do any actual investigation. they just spirt out what everyone else is saying. how many times have you heard a headline change as more "facts" , or the correct facts come out .

And why is that? Because the Liberal media constantly plays those segments over and over and over..... Which again proves the point that the Liberal media do control the echo chamber and will harp on constant talking points and trying to marginalize the right.

If you actually dig into it, you'll find that conservative talking points get far more air time, as do "untruths" about liberal candidates and politicians. One person says "Al Gore said he invented the internet!" and suddenly everyone is saying it, even though it isn't true (that he said it).

It's kind of like the myth that women talk more than men. When they actually study it, they find that men actually talk a lot more than women, but that men perceive that women talk more. Likewise, it would seem conservatives think liberals get more screen time, when actually they don't.

You really must spend less time on those conspiracy sites. Just how does corporate media end up being part of the Democrat party? Especially when big business is most often owned and controled by more conservative elements in society.

They might be Conservative as far as business practices are concerned. But as far as socially, they are not. How many "TV" networks allow Conservatives or Traditionalists to voice their opinions and are allowed to be heard? What is the ratio between Liberals and Conservatives that are being heard on the big 3? Liberals by largely DO hold sway and are dominant in that realm. Talk Radio is a different playing field, where Conservatives fair much better.

Tiered of the left wing bias, and how the New York times sets the stage for what stories are reported on the nightly news. I would fire Jonathan Banner, ABC world news is a money loser and he can't see that , his salary should be a dollar.

@saborichan: I have to admit, I don't see that on the news but I do see it on the "Kenmin Show" and "Hanamaru Market" which is one of the reasons I like those shows.

While I have reservations about people customizing what news they are fed (via preferences) so that they only get news which reenforces their views, TV news is an archaic medium. They're only relevant insofar as they can use their brand to offer exclusive interviews with newsmakers. Other than that they're pretty redundant and the "news" quite expired by the time they broadcast.

goddog. I think that pretty much sums up all of Japanese TV. Close shot of ordinary Japanese food, make sure to catch the sizzle, then hashi to mouth followed by rousing "oishii". Repeat 250,000,000 times a day on every channel.

I like Japanese news because they often take 25 minutes of the hour to show people saying oishi at 500 yen restaurants.

I get that you are rabidly against anything liberal, but do get your facts straight. The media represents its owners who are vastly priviledged class interests. Hardly liberal by any rational interpretation.

Panic ! NBC, CBS, ABC - the media wing of the Democrat Party - can not only no longer control the narrative they are now close to full blown parody of their former selves.

Much of the "news" these days is speculation about what might happen, rather than reporting on things which have happened. Political news is reduced to showing a single soundbite from each party. Anything to do with sport "man kicks/hits ball" isn't news and should be in a separate programme. Extended news bulletins are unnecessary and usually just repeat the same things over and over again: the art of journalism is to succinctly summarise the facts into the available time/space, not to waffle on into the night.

Once upon a time the media was intended to be the balance that kept government and business honest. The media was to be a platform for society to debate topics, reach the truth and to share well researched information. That was then.

Now the media is sensationalistic garbage. Sound bites without indepth information and filled with useless bits of information about celebrities, sports etc... Substance is almost non-existent. And this is all before you factor in the main feeling that the news gives the viewer, and that is fear, worry and uneasy feelings about all the dangers from things in your home to people wanting to blow you up.

Add to this the fact that the media is owned, monitored and fully in the service of corporations and one has to wonder what purpose the media serves today.

Evening news, morning news, or Sunday discussion shows aside, does the media serve any meaningful purpose in democracies today? Or is it just another propaganda wing for big interests and business?

I just want the news to be someone sitting at a table reading stuff I need to know, with reporters telling me more stuff I need to know. I don't care how the Euro is doing against the Yen, or how the Won is against the Australian Dollar, and I don't need to be shown it running in a loop accross the bottom of the screen all day. The people who want to know that stuff don't get that information from a regular newscast.

Get rid of all the trimmings and just give people the informarion they need to know. Is it that hard?

They could start by getting rid of all that cr@p on the screen telling me where else to go: news crawlers along the bottom, weather in the upper right (or left), the station logo!? And in a tiny little square in the middle, you can almost see the newscaster's head.
