How does it matter if the writer is not able to answer concerns about “The Last Train from Hiroshima,” including whether two men mentioned in the book actually existed or not ?

p2r31, because it was presented as non-fiction and a history book. If you can't even say these people existed, what does it say about the rest of your 'facts'? If you read a history book that called Osaka the capital of Japan, wouldn't you suspect the rest of the book as being similarly inaccurate? Of course, if he had presented it as fiction. No problem. But then it wouldn't sell because it might be incredibly boring as fiction.
