Looks like another CG-filled yawnfest.

sorry but im a big cameron fan, terminator and aliens still remain 2 of the greatest sci fi movies ever made, this will be a good movie, i dont know if it will be great in the same ground breaking way terminator and aliens were so we will have to wait and see. Personally im really looking forward to this movie as its cameron back doing what he does best.

Cameron can't count on me to pump up box numbers...I have the I Hate Teenagers Inside Theathers Syndrome. Better wait Avatar to hit the shelves.

At least Cameron is trying to do something a bit different.

Dances with smurfs

I saw the trailer for this recently, and it just looked like a whole bunch of special effects attached to a pretty weak storyline.

Not my bag at all, but I can see why serious film buffs would be into it.

It's dances with wolves with CG.

I can't wait to see it. Cameron has never disappointed me before, and quite honestly, in an age of sequels, prequels, comic book/novel/game tie-ins, it'll be nice to see something original for a change.

It's a love story. BAARP! Not going to see it. Titanic was a huge waste of time.

I think it will flop.

Sure it uses CGI, but this is different. I've seen some of the preview and, erm.... yeah, it's pretty cool.

I will definitely see this one.

It's up to the teenage girls now. Grrrl power!

I have never seen a cameron film that wasn't amazing. Ok titanic wasnt up my ally, but I saw it. It was a good movie. and even love the Abyss. esp the 3 hour directors cut. They say this is most expensive movie ever made... its not going to be bad. you guys are calling it a love story, etc. Human move to a planet and murder the aliens living there. its suppose to be a pretty violent and gruesome movie.

Dances with Smurfs. I wont waste my time.

I've seen the preview for this movie several times, and I have no interest in seeing it at all. Actually I think the big blue aliens are a "turn-off" - not appealing, I'd rather not look at them.

yes

With yet another Aussie star from the production line taking on Hollywood - Sam Worthington - this film will be a colossal success!

"you are not in Kansas anymore, you are in Pandora" Oh please....I am gonna skip this one and as abromofo said, the blue aliens kinda suck. This move is gonna filled with horrible cliches.

a scientist overseeing a program that allows humans to take on alien forms to explore

Its been done. I read a great short story about the concept where the people transformed successfully into an abundant life form on a certain planet, but never came back. People kept trying, but none returned. Then you follow the last people to try--turns out that just being that life form put you in a state of such mental clarity that there was no way you would want to be human again.

Anyway, I wonder where he got the idea?

"unobtainium"? really :D?

I'll still see it... it kind of reminds me of Ferngully a bit though ;)

Anyone remember what some people said before Titanic? "Who wants to see a movie about a boat sinking? Everyone already knows how the story ends."

Avatar has mass appeal - it looks moderately interesting to a wide, diverse segment of the market. Fantasy, love story, Army guys, stuff blowing up, flying reptile all captured with cutting edge film making. I'll be very surprised if this isn't a big hit this holiday season.

although Titanic was possibly the worst movie of all time... I have great hopes for Avatar... Please no more 'chick-flicks' though Cam

Ripping off Philip K. Dick again... "Oh to be a Blobel!" Man becomes alien. Man falls in love with alien. Man wants to stay big, blue thing with woman.

The plot centers on the post-traumatic psychological state of former espionage agents on both sides of the Human-Blobel war. Blobels are presented as a single-cell, protoplasmic species prevalent in the outer solar system. Espionage agents on both sides of the conflict underwent irreversible physical modifications, enabling them to assume the form of the opposing species for a defined time period each day. The story deals with the ramifications for agents' personal and social identity from this alteration.

When I first heard about Avatar and saw the trailer, I was amazed this movie had been made; I thought it was a fable about the illegal invasion of Iraq (as well as previous US invasions to other countries with a weaker or non-existent military power), the war for oil and clash of civilizations. However I am surprised not one critic has touched that, much preferring to go even further back in time to compare it to... Native American Indians and the conquer of the Wild West! It's amazing in a way, really.

I might see the movie if it ever comes to Japan... or to video. Whichever happens first.

Don't worry, Avatar will be in Japan soon, Japanese will lap this movie up - being massive fans of sci-fi/fantasy. It will be one of the biggest Japanese movies of all time. Also, we have a potential new Russell Crowe in Sam Worthington... There is no stopping the Aussie Actors!

The term "gone native" comes from the phenomenon of a "civilized person" immersing himself in a native culture to the extent that he regards his former culture as how the natives regard it: the destructive and stress-inducing oddity. In North America, there are many examples of European men who abandoned "civilization" for tribal society, i.e. a life in harmony and balance with nature.

Do we really need a movie about evil humans killing and exploiting innocent, noble aliens? Just think of how much more good that half a billion could have done to help the poor around the world.

Maybe some people could learn a thing or two from the film about destroying the lives of native people and the ecosystems they live in. I just saw the movie in 3D and it was awesome. Sure, there's some cliches, but it takes CGI to a whole new level. Both WETA (who made Lord of the Rings) and ILM (who made Star Wars) were involved. Thumb your nose at the blue aliens if you like, but I'd be surprised if anyone could watch it in 3D and not be impressed on some level.

i went in not expecting much, but i admit this movie surprised me and i found it thoroughly enjoyable... also, it is absolutely beautiful to behold.
