CNN finding that prime-time success is elusive

I suppose you can watch Fox, CNN and MSNBC in Japan - if you have cable.

This just can't be true. CNN's audience is more partisan than Fox's?????

Yeah, of course CNN's programming is slanted on the conservative side. They just finally got rid of Lou Doobs. During election season, they would hype up any controversy at all about Obama's campaign, and provide a lot of detail and info on th republican's side. Usually good news for the Republicans were covered with more fervor.

CNN is a well known mouth piedce for the Liberal elite and for the Obama administration.

Fox News is the only station the brings unbiased news and in an entertaining manner when appropiate. I would advise all those here to watch Fox news in future for an unbiased view of the world.

Anyone whom has seen some of the coverage here in Japan (CNNI) can see how far left CNN really is. No problem having media on the left, let's just have a medium on the right. Fox news.

Anyone else except me hate the ridiculous CNN "International" we are forced to watch here? So many useless shows, from yachting to golf. I miss the 'real' CNN broadcasts from the mother ship in Atlanta.

Democrats have far less fear of Fox's lies upsetting their construct of the world, than knee-jerk conservatives have of truth slipping in.

About 40% consider themselves Democrats, 30% Republicans... so very basic statistics will tell you Fox is more partisan. Not only that, since Democrats are a larger percentage of the population, their views are more moderate (on the whole). Republicans lean much further to the right.

Especially since what they're really afraid of, is Fox actually reporting the news, both negative and positive, rather then mostly just covering stories the way the Dems want them to. Look at Obamas most recent efforts to sideline Fox as an example of how much the Libs hate and fear Fox.

I don't particularly have a problem with CNN. They're a news network. They're better then MSNBC, not as good as Fox. They do seem a bit slanted towards the Liberal side, now that Dobbs is gone, even more so, but then Fox with its Primetime lineup is a bit slanted too.

Watching US cable news channels more than 10 minutes a day is a surefire formula for nurturing suicidal depression. The manipulativeness built into the programming makes a mockery of "journalism."

I trust ted Turner. Jane Fonda was a patriot if there ever was one.

Some of Fox News people actually came from CNN, e.g. Greta Van Susteren (post-Botox), Tucker Carlson, Glenn Beck, etc. So, it's not like CNN doesn't try to balance its views. It's just that Fox keeps swooping CNN's conservatives, though never the liberals funnily enough.

The shared problem with any US news network though is thru rose-tinted glasses that the US looks out for #1, and their version of "international news" is just "Americans abroad" (if it doesn't involve Americans, it's not news). At least PBS news is paid for by people donating money voluntarily, so people get their views reflected on it.

Honestly, the only thing I look for when I’m watching or reading the news is the Who, the What, the Where, the When, and the How. Everything else is just fluff and entertainment for individuals with serious self-validation issues. I mean seriously, do we really need to hear someone mirroring our own political perspectives in chorus just to feel good about ourselves every morning? And does it somehow feel better if it’s televised nationally? Can we really have become so desperate for validation and acceptance in this world that we’ve chosen to forgo making our own informed decisions and deferred that privilege to paid talking heads?

Quite honestly, I regularly find more meaning and depth on the back of cereal boxes than I do from the opinions of these jackasses that clog the airwaves, saying exactly what the sponsors, shareholders, and ratings demand of them. I don’t need a paid celebrity to tell me the Why of a given event. If the Who, What, Where, When, and How are being properly and accurately reported, then viewers should be able to determine the Why all by themselves, rather than having it spoon-fed to them. That spoon-feeding, BTW, is often better known as propaganda.

At the end of the day, when you strip away from the news channels all the commentary and editorial segments that seem to get conservatives liberals, and independents alike in a lather -- be it Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, or NPR -- all that’s left really is the raw news. And that’s just the way it should be.

Journalism must not be biased to any political party or belief, and until CNN and FOX (and the majority of the American news media) remove bias from their reporting they do not deserve to be called "media organizations."

What killed it for me is when they went CNNj bringing you the news you wanted to see! Well WRONG! Let me see, ditch local Asian content so the marines could watch Larry King at Breakfast and Good Morning America at dinner time - morons. (CNN that is - not the marines!)

I was happier without the local Asian content. If I want that, I'll watch NHK or one of the other local networks.

If you read it that way, you must swallow everything Fox tells you.

They are simply not a news organization. Why? Because they only report things from one angle and rarely ever are able to correctly represent what the opposing views are about any issue. They are to real news what "professional wrestling" is to real sport.

Perhaps CNN should stop sucking!

CNN is trying to stay in the middle but their approach and their newscasters are a bit staid. Basically 10 minutes or so of the news whether it is CNN, BBC etc. whets my interest and if I want in depth stuff I go online. Having said that I prefer my movie, music, drama etc. programming than the news.

The middle ground CNN sought is not lucrative in the current U.S. political climate.

That's partly true. Many people do not like middle grounds or validate the other side of a debate.
