What is wrong with showing the world as it is and has always been?

And the curious thing is, that Josh Gad is heterosexual and Luke Evans, who plays Gaston is allegedly gay ( I personally think he is bi, judging from his body language around some of his co- stars).

the studio is sending out a message that this is normal and natural

"Normal?" Well, since "normal" is a relative term, I guess you could call it that, since so many are doing it. But it's certainly not "Natural" for men to have sexual relationships

The times have certainly moved on and society has become much more progressive since the original classic came out in the early 90s. But it's also a shame that they still feel the need to sugar coat much of the storyline. Peter Rosenthal does a good job of looking back and unpacking the original:
