Nelson Mandela made clear that Morgan Freeman was the man he would want to play him in a film.

If Mandela was any other man, I'd call that narcissism

I was in Cape Town that day. It was one of the most incredible memories of my life (so far!). Blacks and whites crying and hugging in the street. Drinking together. Partying together. We were all South African that day.

I can`t wait to see this movie to see if it really managed to capture the spirit of that time.

Nkosi Sikelele Afrika!

Two of my favorite actors! Kirakira: a magical moment for you! I can only imagine the feeling it gave you. What an experience!

I remember that game - to this day, some of our Kiwi friends from across the ditch stll claim the All-Blacks were victims of malicious food poisoning which cost them the final! LOL! The 'Boks just outkicked the All-Blacks in a kick-a-thon and won it for their black brother, Mandela. Must have been an awe-inspiring moment to be at.

no claim it's a fact (check the team line ups and substitutions) but unlike the whinging Aussies the Kiwis HTFU'ed and moved on.

I wonder how this film will do in America, considering that rugby is an unknown sport to most Americans.

I was at a Rugby Club in CapeTown watching it on a huge cinema-TV screen. After that we hit Bree Street in central CapeTown - along with what turned out to be several thousand of our closest friends! There was a song at that time that many of the ethnic Africans were singing called "shosholosa" - it was a beautiful harmonious tune sung the way only Africans can. Everyone learned it and I remember at one point standing in the street with everyone holding hands and singing our hearts out.

That whole tournament was incredible. Rob Andrews drop kick against the Aussies in the closing seconds that put England into the semi`s was just incredible. But I STILL have the front page of the Cape Times from the day after the SA NZ final.

I was incredibly lucky to be there. Unfortunately, I have heard things went sour again for a while after that time in South Africa, but I will never forget the pride and hope in peoples faces. I really hope the 2010 soccer world cup turns out to be as successful - but I hear there is a lot of unrest in the country right now regarding the amount of money being spent when poverty levels are still high.

The article hardly mentions rugby at all. I think it must have been written by a non-rugby person (American perhaps). But the comments are practically all about rugby. It is a world game (yeah, not as big as soccer) and all us rugby fans can't wait to see a movie that does our sport justice!

"BurakuminDes", I totally disagree with your comments!!!! Here are the facts: (1) most of the All Black squad were suffering from food poisoning. (2) most of the starting 15 were throwing up the morning of the game. (3) some of the All Black players vomitted on the side line during the game. The All Blacks were not "...just out kicked..", but in fact they were beaten because they were sick as dogs.

All any can really remember about this game was the rumours that started to come out of the NZ camp a day BEFORE the final about how sick everyone was.. eventually the rumours of severe food-poisoning were confirmed.

having to watch Craig Dowd assisted off the field white as a ghost from fluid depletion! who can forget Jeff Wilson puking his ring out on the side line.

I'd never go as far to say (as some people implied) that the poisoning was deliberate... but there is no doubt that the ABs faded towards the end of a game they surely should have won by 20 points.

I'll not be watching this movie.

haha, Matt Damon would get smashed in a real game of rugby. Obviously the rugby parts of the movie are going to be crap.

I dunno, hide him out on the wing and he might be OK. I remember in this game, winger Chester Williams was the (only?) black player in the 'boks team. He was a little fella too and had a bit of toe.

I probably won't bother watching either, to be honest - I've got a feeling it could be a dud!

As for the "food poisoning", look I believe that some of the AB boys suffered from it, they looked awful, but I highly doubt it was malicious as some of my Kiwi "cuzzy bro" mates have insisted!

Well it could well have been food poisoning, because they usually choke on something when WC comes around.

Invictus, Now theres a word Latin I think for.... cant remember?

Eastwood is the best! Damon as a rugby captain, less convincing. South Africa has lost the magic of those Worl Cup winning times.

South Africa has lost the magic of those Worl Cup winning times.

Not sure about that. They are Number One in the world, they won the 2007 World Cup, and the Boks are still the best. Sure, their Rugby is boring - but so is every nation! This is the most boring period rugby has gone through - and why no one watches games - in Australia at least.

In retrospect it would have been much better for the All Blacks not to have played that game and postpone it for a week or so. Sick as they all were they still only lost 15-12 to an extra time drop goal.By far the most memorable thing about the tournament was Jonah Lomu`s 4 tries in the semi final versus the Poms. Now THAT would be worth making a movie about
