Walked parts of the John Muir trail in the High Sierras about sixty years ago, in a July. I remember there was snow pack all over the place. Whenever we wanted water we could just reach down and scoop up snow. It is not unusual for that area to get snowfall in August.
Saw pictures taken by the adult children of a friend who went on the same trail about twenty years ago. I was struck by how little snow pack was in the pictures. It might have just been a case of different weather in a different year, but I suspect the reduced accumulated summer-time snow was due to global warming. There have been plenty of news reports here in California about how even when there is heavy snow during snow season, increased temperatures in summer have resulted in the snow disappearing much more quickly. This trend is probably happening worldwide, including in Kenya.
