The BBC's 'Gardener's World' began the mainstream push to avoid peat in compost under the much missed Geoff Hamilton in the 1980s. He also promoted organic gardening before most had heard of it. All much to the anger of the peat and chemicals lobbies.

You might think this is crazy - like some of the dafter rewilding schemes - but it isn't. Most of the ways we have to reduce emissions impact upon our lives in a negative way. Protecting peatlands doesn't have this negative impact. That should make it a good choice for politicians - reduce your emissions and save the planet without upsetting voters. So get on and do it. Drone use may speed it up.
