A good idea, and a project well worth supporting. It was always going to be a long term project, as a species we struggle with managing and especially funding on a regular and sustained basis long term projects needing more than one generation (or if you are a politician more than the time it takes for a sound bite).

The Arabs in the northern most part of Africa do not really care or do very little to assist in the effort. They are looking at it as an opportunity to occupy more unwanted land. Only the countries that border Sahara desert and sub saharan Africa care about desertification.
