If the CCP, cough cough, "leadership" was more intelligent and less fearful they would realize rising seas represent a greater threat to China and the survival of the CCP than anything that happens or doesn't happen on Taiwan.

I think it is more a feeling of inferiority. Unlike his Taiwanese counterpart Tsai Ing-wen, Baby Ping Ping never stood for election to his post by the people of China and thus has no popular mandate to govern. He also must know that unlike his western counterparts he has no broad based popular support beyond the inner circle of his faction of the CCP. Last, his counterpart in Taiwan or any other western leader has to worry about ending up like Nicolae Ceaușescu but that fate is a real possibility for Baby Ping Ping.

I should have said "Last, neither his counterpart in Taiwan nor any other western leader has to worry about ending up like Nicolae Ceaușescu but that fate is a real possibility for Baby Ping Ping.

Chinese policies are being held hostage by Xi's overzealous sense of entitlement. Being a dictator will do that to you.

Other more important issues have overtaken climate change. Stopping China's aggressive acts in Asia is one. So, no need to be alarmed. Just use less air-conditioning and take the bus instead of driving your own car.

The US may or may not respect an "agreement" (not treaty) depending on the president, CCP will not respect an "agreement" period.
