There are nearly 1,250 plants in NatureServe's "critically imperiled" category, the final stage before extinction

This means that more than one thousand possibilities are close to be lost, new drugs, templates for study and improvement of important crops, undiscovered materials, etc. etc.

Even by simple convenience and profit the loss of biodiversity on this scale is a huge tragedy, for people that understand how ecosystems can be destroyed with much less this is of course much more the case.
