Polar bears are strong swimmers -- their Latin name is Ursus maritimus -- but they can't keep up with reindeer on long distances on land.

wow! who would've thought it?! An apex predator adapting to eat other prey....it's almost as if it's proving an amazing theory of survival.....

It's NOT a "new" diet, just less often observed. Bears in general are opportunistic feeders, and that includes Polar Bears. Nothing new here.
