A powerful play will be performed, in English, on stage in Shinjuku, Tokyo, at the end of September.
Titled "Blackbird,", the play, by David Harrower, won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play in 2007. Directed by local actor Paul Howl, the play will open at Trance Mission Theater in Sangubashi on Sept 22 and run for five performances.
It's the story of a woman, the survivor of childhood sexual exploitation, confronting her attacker after he is released from prison. Based on a true story, it also has astonishing echoes of a case in America earlier this year. Due to the intense nature of the presentation (strong language and adult themes), we are not recommending attendance by children under the age of 18.
Performances are Sept 22 (7 p.m.), Sept 23 (1 p.m. and 7 p.m.) and Sept 24 (12 p.m. and 3 p.m.). Tickets: 3,500 yen. For reservations, contact blackbirdoftokyo@gmail.com.
