“Kanagawa Re-Classic in Chigasaki” will shed light on the remaining traditional culture of Chigasaki, using state-of-the-art technology. While interest in Japanese culture is booming overseas as the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics Games approach, this 6th annual event is a fusion of traditional culture with the latest digital technology to reconfigure a brand-new creation.

Stage director Yasunori Takeda is an up-and-coming young director famous for his projection art. For the past 10 years, Takeda has directed CES, a trade fair of new technologies and electronic equipment hosted by the National Consumer Technology Association, held in Las Vegas.

The “Kanagawa Re-Classic in Chigasaki” kicks off at 2 p.m. on Saturday February 23 at Chigasaki Citizens Cultural Center (1-11-1 Chigasaki City, Chigasaki).

Another must-go-to event is the Kabuki experience workshop. This is in honor of Kabuki actor Danjuro Ichikawa the 9th, who set up a villa in Chigasaki. This extraordinary experience is to celebrate the 180th anniversary of his birth.

During the program on Saturday, February 16, participants can try on Kabuki costumes and enjoy the play "Shiranami Gonin Otoko”. On Sunday, February 17, participants will learn about Kabuki's chambara (sword fight), experience an action scene, and then watch the play.

There will be three shows at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3 p.m. at Chigasaki Yukari no Jinbutsukan Multipurpose room (6-6-64 Higashikaigan-Minami Chigasaki).

These workshops are free of charge, but reservations must be made in advance since seats are limited. Application deadline is February 11.
