The biggest problem with Wikipedia is that many topics are controlled by cabals of political activists, mainly but not only leftists, who purposely drive away any editors who want to make the articles more neutral. The new chief doesn’t appear able and willing to admit it.

I can't figure out why Wikipedia doesn't serve ads? It's better than running a big banner: give it to us, beggars, out of your grace.

Absolutely, assuming they're serious about fighting misinformation that's an awesome idea that I've often thought about. Having a larger and more global pool of eyes reading and editing would significantly help in eliminating bias and outright lies in controversial political and historical articles, like in the case of Japanese Wikipedia articles on the Nanking Massacre and other war crimes where the narrative is heavily slanted by conservative and outright revisionist editors.

If you compare the Japanese articles to the English versions the differences in the quality of the referenced sources, level of explanatory detail, and the availability of accompanying photographic and other non-textual media is like night and day.

@Boris Yarovoy

I would assume that in the interest of staying as impartial as possible. I am sure companies would love to get their hands on people's wiki browsing habits to serve targeted ads, wikipedia has so far managed to avoid that particular influence.

That's the reason why it is not as reliable as when it first launched, in the beginning, the radical left took over this once great tool and like everything they touch weaponized it for political advantages. The platform has become now synonymous with disinformation and unverified statements passed on as facts,

Wonder how much she gets paid while every time I visit Wikipedia it asks me to donate money.

There is some criticism that the foundation has plenty of money to fund its expenses and yet is begging its users for money

That woman wanted that job because it pays hundreds of thousands of dollar per year. That is the main reason.

By making people work for free for her organization. That is the most possible hypocritical position I have in mind.

Non-profit, far from the truth for the president.

I had written to wikipedia and they answered to me that they would get paid higher wages if working elsewhere.

Latest salary for 2019 executive president (Katherine Maher) : 387,700$ per year. Only !

And begging for donations.

Never /ever will I donate again to that organization that has such profiteers/parasites.
