Healthy breakfast ideas for each day of the week

By Anisa Kazemi

The way we eat today is labeled more than ever before: keto, vegetarian, vegan, paleo, clean, raw, green, healthy, sugar-free, gluten-free, grain-free, what have you. I don’t know about you but when it comes to eating for my wellbeing, these labels have me rather confused. Don’t get me wrong, I respect their positive implications on our world, but I also acknowledge the destructive influences of “breaking” such labels. For me, eating healthily has always been about eating quality food — fresh, organic and as unprocessed as possible. And when it comes to being and feeling healthy, a good quality breakfast can take you a long way. Here’s a one-week breakfast plan that’s easy to make and even easier to follow.

Monday: Homemade muesli

muesli-1024x682.jpg

Store-bought mueslis are incredibly high in sugar (in various forms, including honey, maple syrup and dried fruit) – especially the so-called health-products. So learn to make your own — it’s much easier and customizable than you think.

Using a large frying pan, separately dry-roast your oats and your chosen nuts and seeds until both are fragrant and lightly browned. Then combine the two. Next, add a teaspoon or two of your favorite spices — ginger, cardamom or cinnamon, for example, and then add a small amount of dried fruit of your choice. Stir to combine and let cool. Enjoy your homemade muesli with your favorite milk and yogurt and lots and lots of fresh seasonal fruit as toppings. For a matcha version of this recipe, see here

Those foods look amazing and looks so simple to make. I do agree with the muesli. It's high in sugar. I've had freshly made muesli and granola. Yes, the aroma is great.

That vegan muffin looks great. Must try.

The problem with practically all cereals, etc in Japan is that they all have so much sugar. I end up buying imported mueslis. Oats/porridge are great too, but so much more expensive compared to back home.

Never put honey, syrup, dried fruit on your Cereals.

Never eat ginger or any spices in the Morning.

Never mix yogurt and fruits. Always eat this after 30 mins of your meal.

All related to Gastric/Gerd problem.

The Best Healthy Breakfast

3/4 cup of Organic Oats in bowl

Pour Cocount or Almond Milk

Boil or Microwave for 3 mins

Put Organic Bran Flakes 1/4, Golden Flakes 1/4, Granola Nuts Kellogs? (without raisins and dried fruits) 1/4, Chia Seeds 1/4, Walnuts 4-5 pieces

Add them in that bowl and pour cold coconut or almond milk on it but don't heat

Mix it and eat that crunchy nutty flavor.

This is my own healthy breakfast.

Time consuming, faddy food.

Porridge is good, as are eggs, toast, plain yogurt, pot of tea. All quick easy and cheap - unlike the recommendation in the article.

Never mix yogurt and fruits.

Backpacking Nepal - where did you get this and other of your strange rules and dictacts from?

Pour Cocount or Almond Milk

I wouldn't recommend either on a regular basis. Coconut milk is high in saturated fats and is bad for your heart long term.

Almond milk is very bad for the environment and tastes pretty poor.

BackpackingNepal, I'd appreciate it if you could kindly elaborate on this. I regularly eat yogurt with fruits (banana, blueberries...). I used to have GERD, but I assumed it was due to my nighttime tequila/lime shots.
